SUMMARY:The Dover Writers November Meetup
DESCRIPTION:The Dover Writers Meetup Group\n\nGenerally\, each member share
s a short sample (1 to 5 pages) of something she or he wrote with other mem
bers of the group. Some members like to bring multiple copies of their work
and have the other members read it silently\, others prefer to bring one c
opy and read it aloud. Some like feedback\, others don't. Samples have gene
rally been fictional prose\, ranging from science-fiction/fantasy to real l
ife coming of age stories. Members have also brought in poetry. We are welc
ome to just about any genre\, including non-fiction. At some meetings\, we
have informallly talked about how we use writing in our respective jobs\, b
ut this is not a prerequisite. Some of us are published authors\, but most
of us (including myself) are not. Most of our meetings (to this point) have
been at the Central Wave (formerly Dover Soul)\, a restaurant in downtown
Dover.\n\nLastly\, to find me more easily\, I will be wearing a Red Sox jer

SUMMARY:Intellectual Spirituality Radio Show - Featured Guest Chris Augusti
 n
DESCRIPTION:The Seacoast Paranormal Research Group\n\nBy day he works as a
programmer analyst for a major food service company doing application devel
opment and technical support. By night\, he records and analyzes UFO sighti
ng reports\, abduction experiences\, hauntings and anything else that quali
fies as strange/unknown/weird. Chris Augustin has been an Alien/UFO/Paranor
mal Investigator for 13+ years now. Chris' site\, www.aliensthetruth.com\,
is online for one main reason\, the truth. In our community\, people who ha
 ve had UFO sightings\, abduction experiences\, paranormal encounters\, etc\
; need a place to go. They need a place to share what they have experienced
without the fear of ridicule. This is truly an alternate reality for many
people. The mainstream media rarely gives our community positive attention\
, unless it's some major event like the Roswell UFO crash anniversary\, or
when there's a mass sighting\, where hundreds or thousands of people witnes
s the event\, like the Phoenix Lights in 1997. The site focuses on some ver
y basic premises\, there is life on this planet\, which is one out of billi
ons. Therefore\, it is mathematically impossible for life not to exist on a
nother. With the vast amount of evidence collected over the years\, going b
ack to ancient times\, up to today\, from reports gathered by MUFON and oth
er organizations\; there is no way that we can be alone in the universe. Jo
in us tonight at 9 pm and call in with questions for Chris.\nto listen to t

81-5882.\n\nMount Mansfield (elevation 4\,393 feet) is the highest mountain
in Vermont. From the east its ridge resembles the profile of a human face\
, and the names of its prominent features reflect this: Adams Apple (4\,060
 ')\, Chin (4\,393'\, highest point)\, Nose (4\,062') and Forehead (3\,940')
. For about 2.3 miles (from the Forehead to Adams Apple) the Long Trail is
almost constantly above treeline\, the only such long stretch of alpine zon
e in Vermont. The initial climb is strenuous and difficult\; the rest of t
he trip is a ridge walk and is relatively easy.\n\n\n"The Forehead\," summi

ascent to the summit of Bare Mountain. We’ll follow the Monadnock-Metacom

at the Mount Percival Trailhead. \nFollow Mount Percival Trail for 0.2 mile
. \nBear left onto the Morgan-Percival Connector and follow it for 0.5 mile
to its end. \nTurn right and follow Mount Morgan Trail for 1.6 miles until
it meets with Crawford-Ridgepole Trail. \nTurn right and follow this path
for about 0.4 mile. Mount Morgan Trail and Crawford-Ridgepole Trail coincid
e for this section. After about 0.2 mile you will walk past a series of lad

efore reaching Mount Morgan's cliff-top viewpoint. \nThe better option for
winter is to continue about 0.2 mile farther on the main trail and then tu
rn left to tackle the last part of Mount Morgan Trail\, leaving Crawford-Ri
dgepole Trail behind. After 90 yards you will reach a fork. Bear left/strai

dgepole Trail\, turn left\, and follow this route for 0.8 mile which will b
ring you to the summit of Mount Percival. \nFor the descent\, follow Mount
Percival Trail. After less than 0.1 mile you will reach a trail junction\,
where on the way up one could opt to take a very rough route up to the summ

for 1.9 miles which will return you to the Mount Percival Trailhead parking

SUMMARY:Andres Institute of Art
DESCRIPTION:New England Photo Expeditions\n\n(Photo Courtesy of Greg Fortie
r)\nIn 1996\, engineer and innovator Paul Andres purchased Big Bear Mountai
n in Brookline\, NH and moved into the \nhouse near the top of the mountain
. Based on his lifelong love of nature and passion for art\, Paul decided t
o \npurchase sculptures to place in the natural setting surrounding his new
home.\n\nCoincidentally\, master sculptor John M. Weidman had been living
in Brookline for many years. Not surprisingly\, \nJohn's skill as a sculpto
r became known to Paul and they began to work together to make plans for ad
ding \nsculptures to the mountain. In 1998\, they co-founded the Andres Ins
titute of Art as a 501(c) (3) charitable \norganization.\n\nThe Mission of
the Institute is:\n"Andres Institute of Art shall serve and advance the int
ellectual and social well being of the public by educating and \ntraining a
rtists\, by promoting the integration of art and technology\, and by suppor
ting fine arts."\n\nThe Institute is involved in many activities related to
art\, including the annual International Bridges and Connections \nsculptu
re symposium. The first symposium was held in 1999. Seven artists were invi
ted to come to Brookline for two \nweeks to create sculptures which would b
e placed on permanent display on the mountain. Sculptors from Lithuania\, \
nLatvia\, England\, Czech Republic\, Ukraine\, New Hampshire and Vermont at
tended this first symposium and stayed \nwith local volunteer families.\n\n
It appeared to be a quiet affair from below in Brookline village. Most of t
he public was unaware of the happenings on \nBig Bear Mountain. Atop the mo
untain it was anything but quiet. Sculptors were cutting\, bending and weld
ing steel. \nOthers were splitting\, shaping grinding and polishing stone.
The work was carried out under the gentle guidance of \nJohn Weidman\, who
has served as the Artistic Director of Andres Institute since its founding
.\n\nMeanwhile\, volunteers groomed and prepared sculpture sites. As the sc
ulptures were completed\, volunteers moved \nthem from the studio to the si
tes using heavy equipment. When the sculptors headed home two weeks after t
hey \narrived\, seven new sculptures had been placed on the mountain. One o
f them\, Phoenix\, is to this day the largest \nwork in the sculpture park\
; it is 15 feet tall and weighs about 11 tons.\n\nThe symposium format prov
ed a great success. Since that time\, the Institute has held a sculpture sy
mposium each \nyear\, with each symposium having its own theme.\n\nThe arti
sts are paid a small stipend for their attendance\, but the real reward is
that they are allowed to create \nwhatever sculpture they like and to place
it wherever they want on the mountain. The Institute provides tools and \n
materials to help each artist realize his or her vision. The artists apprec
iate this support\, and they enjoy the freedom \nto express their craft acc
ording to their own inspiration.\n\nThe annual symposia have been truly int
ernational in nature with participating artists coming from many countries
\nand diverse cultures across five continents.\n\nAs a result of the colle
ctive effort from these gifted artists\, we now have over 50 thought-provok
ing original works of \nart nestled along walking trails all over the mount
ain in our 140 acre sculpture park. Our park contains miles of \nwooded tra
ils\, beautiful vistas\, and peaceful settings. It is the combination of ar
t and nature that makes a visit to \nAndres Institute of Art a unique and m
emorable occasion.\n\nAt Andres Institute of Art\, we bring art to our comm
unity by making the experience of art an everyday relationship. \nOur purpo
se is to underline the interface of nature and culture in order to bring th
e visitor into a closer\, and \nperhaps more comfortable relationship with
the works of art. Both the location and the environment of Andres \nInstitu
te give us the opportunity to continue to build a place in which individual
s may experience art and nature in \ntandem. By placing sculpture within na
ture's framework of trees\, boulders\, critters and mushrooms\, viewers are
free \nto consider the undercurrents of the inherently beautiful art form
nature has to offer along with each piece of art \nwork. The untouched qual
ity of the Institutes's 140 acres furthers the experience of a personal con
nection with \nnature. The grounds at Andres Institute of Art are open to t
he public year round -free of charge- and we encourage \nyou to come and en
joy the well-marked trails. Maps are located at the trailhead behind parkin

ple Barn has been a family establishment since the late 1960s. It began wit
h nothing more than a small Sugar House by the original Parker family and h
as grown to become a very popular country restaurant serving hearty breakfa

long with many unique gifts like our maple syrup gift baskets and maple syr

SUMMARY:Hike the Carters
DESCRIPTION:The New England Hiking Meetup\n\nJoin us for a late season hike
of the Carter Range. We will hit all three of the official 4000 foot peak
s in the Carters. This trip will involve a short car-spotting expedition.
To that end we will meet at Nineteen Mile Brook Trail parking lot off of R
 t. 16 near Camp Dodge and take one or two cars to Imp Trail once everyone a
rrives.\n\nThe total hike will be just under 14 miles so headlamps are a re
quirement given the fact that it will likely be dark by 4 pm in the shadow
of the presidentials. Microspikes or stablizers are very strongly encourag
ed as are hiking poles. The trails aren't likely to be very snowy given th
e warmth of the last week\, but they could very easily be covered in ice in
places from frozen springs by the weekend.\n\nOtherwise use your common se
nse. It will be cold and the pace will be moderately quick in order to mak
e it down before dinner. So pack plenty of food and water an wear layers.\
n\nNote: If you don't have reasonably appropriate gear I may ask you not to
hike with us\, so if in doubt please email me.\n\nGorham\, NH 03581 - USA

SUMMARY:Mount Wolf NH52 with a view list 3478'...
DESCRIPTION:The New England Hiking Meetup\n\nThis is a AT section hike to M
ount Wolf (NH52 with a view list 3478'\n)...\n\n which provides good views
to Franconia Ridge\, brooks\, and rock scrambles. It follows Reel Brook Tra
il all the way to its end and then turns right to follow Kinsman Ridge Trai
l to Mount Wolf. \n\nThe return trip is via the same route.\n\nTrails: Reel
Brook Trail\, Kinsman Ridge Trail\, Appalachian Trail\n Central West White
  Mountain National Forest\, Cannon-Kinsman Region\nHike distance 9.6 miles
 \, \nElevation Gain 2200 Feet\nBook time Average: 6 hrs \nRating: Moder
ate\n\n\nRoute Summary \n•	Start on Reel Brook Trail and follow it for 1
.3 miles\, crossing a few small streams en route.\n•	The trail will then tu
rn left to join a wide logging road which emerges beneath some power lines
after 100 yards. On the way back be careful not to miss this turn off the l
ogging road and back onto the trail - it is marked by a small faded brown s
ign with a yellow arrow - but you may still be tempted to keep on hiking do
wn the wide logging road if you're not paying attention.\n•	Cross the power
line clearing at a diagonal beneath the lines on a wide\, mowed/flattened
path to hook up with another woods path on the other side. \n•	Continue on
Reel Brook Trail for another 0.6 mile. You will cross a tributary once and
Reel Brook three times. After the third crossing follow the trail to the ri
ght on a logging road.\n•	A half-mile beyond the third brook crossing\, go
straight while the logging road veers off to the left\; and then 100 yards
later bear right at another logging road intersection.\n•	One more mile of
climbing up Reel Brook Trail will bring you to a T-junction with Kinsman Ri
dge Trail which is also the Appalachian Trail (AT).\n•	Turn right onto Kins
man Ridge Trail/Appalachian Trail and follow it for 1.9 miles. At this poin
t the path widens a bit and there's a white "Kinsman Ridge Trail" sign with
arrows pointing in both directions. Opposite this sign\, is the barely not
iceable and unsigned spur path to the Mount Wolf outlook.\n•	Turn left onto
the spur path and follow it for 60 yards to reach the east knob of Mount W
olf.\n•	Return via the same route.\n\n\n\nDriving Directions \n\nThe Ree
l Brook Trailhead is located in Easton\, New Hampshire.\n\nFrom Route 116:\
n\n * Turn onto Reel Brook Road which is on the east side of Rt. 116 in
Easton. This turn-off is marked by a hiker sign and is on the right\, 3.7 m
iles north of the junction of Routes 112 and 116\; or on the left 1.1 miles
south of Easton's town hall.\n * Reel Brook Road isn't plowed in the wi
nter and is rough even in the summer.\n * Follow Reel Brook Road for 0.6
mile\, until you see another hiker sign\, then take a left into a small f
ield that serves as a parking area. WATCH FOR ROCKS This will probably be n
o problem for SUV's\, but cars with low underbodies need to be very careful
of all the rocks popping out of the ground. Once you get past the entry wa
 y\, the field itself is much smoother.\n\nEaston\, NH 03580 - USA\n\nSunda

SUMMARY:Kearsarge ( Winslow State Park)
DESCRIPTION:4 Seasons Hiking Group\n\nHIKE DESCRIPTION: A short\, steep cli
mb to spectacular views from one of southern New Hampshire's highest peaks
(2\,937'). We will hike the Winslow Trail to the summit which has excellent
360-degree with views of Mount Monadnock\, the Boston skyline\, the White
Mountains\, Lake Winnipesaukee and the mountains of NH Vermont and Maine. T
here is a fire tower at the top which is one of only sixteen active fire lo
okout towers in Mount Kearsarge is the name of a 2\,937-foot (895 m) mounta
in located in Wilmot\, New Hampshire\, and Warner\, New Hampshire\, the Uni
ted States. Two state parks are located on the mountain: Winslow State Park
and Rollins State Park. On a very clear day\, skyscrapers in the city of B
oston\, Massachusetts 80 miles (130 km) away are visible from the fire towe
r on the summit. The summit has remained bare since a 1796 forest fire.\n\n
The name of the mountain evolved from a 1652 rendering of the indigenous na
me for the mountain\, Carasarga\, which it is surmised means "notch-pointed
-mountain of pines."\n\nKearsarge is a monadnock\, and although of only mod
erate elevation\, its isolation gives it 2\,100 ft (640 m) of relative heig
ht above the low ground separating it from the higher mountains farther nor
th. That makes Kearsarge one of twelve mountains in New Hampshire with a pr
ominence over 2\,000 ft (610 m).\n\nMount Kearsarge stands within the water
shed of the Merrimack River\, which drains into the Gulf of Maine. The west
ern slopes of the mountain drain into Cascade Brook\, which flows north to
the Blackwater River\, a stream which flows around the northern and eastern
base of Kearsarge\, eventually draining into the Contoocook River\, a trib
utary of the Merrimack. The northern and eastern slopes of the mountain dra
in more directly into the Blackwater River. The southern face of Mount Kear
sarge drains into Meadow Brook\, a tributary of the Warner River\, which fl
ows southeast to the Contoocook River.\n\nKearsarge is a popular hiking des
tination. The summit is the high point along the 75-mile (120 km) Sunapee-R
agged-Kearsarge Greenway hiking trail which links 10 towns and encircles th
e Kearsarge-Lake Sunapee region of western New Hampshire. The quickest rout
e to the top is from the Rollins State Park picnic area on the mountain's s
outh ridge\, accessible via Kearsarge Mountain Road from the town of Warner
. Access on the mountain's western side is from the picnic area of Winslow
State Park via the Winslow Trail (1.1 mi) or the Barlow Trail (1.6 mi.)\, b
uilt in 1997 by Trailwrights\, a volunteer trail group\, for the SRK Greenw
ay. The full Greenway section hike on Mt. Kearsarge covers 5.8 miles (9.3 k
 m) from Winslow picnic area via the Barlow Trail to the summit and via the
Rollins and Lincoln trails southwesterly to Kearsarge Valley Road in North
Sutton.\n\nThe Winslow Trail and the state park on the Wilmot side are name
d after Captain John Winslow\, the commander of the USS Kearsarge\, which i
n June 1864 sank the CSS Alabama in the English Channel in a famous Civil W
ar sea battle. We will then return to the parking lot via the Barlow Trail.
