SUMMARY:Garth Knox - A world master of the viola plays an evening of music
DESCRIPTION:Wanderlust! (The Albany Travel\, Culture & Adventure Club)\n\nG
arth Knox\, a world master of the viola plays an evening of music\, some ve
ry old\, some very new-- written expressly for his instrument and its baroq
ue-era cousin\, the viola d'amore.\n\nOne the world’s few acknowledged virt
uosos of the viola\, Garth Knox is known for playing some of the most deman
ding music written for that instrument with elegance and dash. On November
14\, he’ll also perform pieces for the viola d’amore\, a period instrument
with resonating strings mounted beneath its bowed ones. The program ranges
from Tobias Hume’s 1605 Pavane to one of Knox’s own compositions from his C
D Viola Spaces. The evening’s highlight will be the world premiere of a new
piece for viola d’amore and electronics by English composer James Dillon u
nder a commission from the French band Art Zoyd. The artist will give a tal
k before the concert. \n\nGarth Knox studied viola at London’s Royal Colleg
e of Music. He has been a member of Pierre Boulez’s Ensemble InterContempor
ain and the Arditti String Quartet. As a soloist\, he has premiered works b
 y Henze\, Ligeti\, Schnittke\, Ferneyhough\, James Dillon\, George Benjamin
\, and many others. In recent years he has begun composing his own music fo
r the viola and viola d’amore\, both with and without electronics. He also
collaborates regularly in theatre and dance projects and has written and pe
rformed a one-man show for children. His CDs include Utopian Dances\, Goldb
 erg’s Ghost\, D’Amore\, with Agnès Vesterman\, and Viola Spaces.\n\nMore in
 fo on the concert: http://www.empac.rpi.edu/events/2009/fall/knox/\n\nDire
ctions to EMPAC: http://www.empac.rpi.edu/visit/\n\nTickets are General Ad
mission and can be purchased at the ticket booth before the show. Tickets
are $15 for the public\, but only $5 for RPI students... so I recommend mak
ing friends with an RPI student by Sat evening. \;)\n\n* We may also meet
for dinner beforehand (around 6pm\, possibly at Muza\, a cute little Polish
restaurant nearby)\, but I'll update when I finalize my schedule for Satur

SUMMARY:Nov. Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Upstate NY Reiki and Alternative Healing Meetup Group\n\nSpecia
l presentation with Anne Angelo:\n\nAnne has been working professionally as
an animal communicator since 2003\, although she has been talking with ani
mals all of my life. As an animal communicator her mission is to facilitate
compassionate and respectful communication between human beings and animal
 s. Anne's passion comes from being able to facilitate a deeper level of con
nection and understanding between humans and their animal companions. She h
as seen where this process brings about growth and renewal for all involved
.\n\n\nWhile Anne communicates with animals she is receiving information “t
elepathically.” This can mean that she is hearing\, seeing and feeling info
rmation during the discussion.\n\n\nAnne has found that the animals bring p
erspective that often help us as humans to achieve greater awareness and re
solution of personal blocks in areas ranging from decision making to death
and dying\, or the “transition” process. Her work with both people and thei
r animal companions has been greatly enhanced by her background as a Licens
ed Clinical Social Worker. Since 1998 Anne has worked with children and adu
lts in a variety of settings\, including trauma and abuse.\n\n\nOne of Anne
's greatest joys is teaching workshops so that others may realize that they
have already communicated with animals in the past.\n\n\n“A conversation w
ith Anne is a wonderful journey into the wise world of animals. Your heart
and soul are awakened through Anne’s gentle guidance and keen ability to br
ing us closer to our pets\, “Robert S.\, Westchester County\, NY.\n\n\nPlea
se join us for a discussion that will address the following and more!\n\n\n
What exactly is animal communication?\n\n\nHow do we talk to animals?\n\n\n
How can animal communication lead to healing and why is it important for pe
ople to learn to tap into their own ability to talk with animals?\n\n\nReal
life examples from my own conversations with animal.\n\n\nQ&A session to f

SUMMARY:Return to the Spa City - Mino's Sushi House in Saratoga Springs
DESCRIPTION:The Albany Sushi Meetup Group\n\nRevisit the Spa City in Novemb
er as we once again indulge ourselves to the delights offered by Mino's Sus
hi House on Maple Street. We have decided upon a multi-course Japanese mea
 l. I spoke with Mino\, and he said that most of the meal (70%) will consis
t of special rolls and sushi. Expect a traditional Japanese entree\, but n
ot too traditional. He mentioned one course that would consist of Spanish
Mackerel marinated in Miso and cooked with Mirin\, a Japanese cooking wine.
He also mentioned cooked shrimp / scallops and vegetables as a course. T
he total cost of this multi-course meal will be $25\, a bargain by most sta
ndards. Naturally\, you can order off the menu if you desire.\n\nPlan on m
eeting at the restaurant in Saratoga at 6:30pm. Also\, we'd like to save s
ome gas and carpool\, so if you'd like to carpool\, let's meet in the Pizze
ria Uno parking lot in the Latham Farms. Departure from the parking lot wi
ll take place at 5:45pm sharp\, so plan accordingly. Park in the corner cl
osest to both the Latham Farms entrance and Route 7. That should help new
members identify us as we gather near the cars.\n\nSaratoga Springs\, NY 1

vents\, politics\, religion (and lack thereof!)\, as well as life\, the uni

lively group of friendly and welcoming irreligious infidels\, freethinkers
\, agnostics & atheists from the Capital district. \nWe will get the larger

tt Monarch and Angela Stokes–Monarch will give a raw food presentation \n
Nov 19th 2009 at 7pm Green Earth Oneonta NY\n\nThe pair will discuss the be
nefits of eating raw foods for health\, weight loss and reversing diseases.
The main principle behind their lifestyle is that eating raw and organic f

rity with celebrities such as Woody Harrelson\, Demi Moore\, Alicia Silvers
tone and singers Jason Mraz and Shania Twain each choosing such diets for o
ptimal health and vitality. \n\nAngela Stokes–Monarch is an award–winning B
ritish author who used to weigh nearly 300lbs before choosing the raw food
lifestyle. She then lost 160 lbs to reverse her prior morbid obesity. Now a
 t 30\, Angela runs a popular health website www.RawReform.com . Her books\,
articles\, and consultations have helped millions worldwide. Her latest po
pular work\, Raw Emotions\, is about food cravings and how to reverse overe
ating by first examining our emotional connections to our food. In 2008\, C
NN News spotlighted her unique weight loss story and this became CNN ‘s top
health story of the year! Angela will soon personally share her unique sto
ry and health wisdom in Oneonta.\n \nMatt Monarch is a leader in the raw fo
od movement and has been eating a 100% raw vegan diet for a decade. He dove
into this lifestyle after reading a classic raw food book and has never lo
oked back. He left his junk food lifestyle behind to dedicate himself to he
lping others. Matt now publishes health books\, videos\, and articles\, and
lectures internationally. His books Raw Spirit and Raw Success provide man
y of his key principles and that have helped transform countless lives. Mat
t further produces an informative Internet blog at www.RawSuccess.org and a
daily Internet TV show at http://www.youtube.com/user/rawreform. Matt's gr

009 2:15 PM): This event involves compass navigation across the ridgeline
from East Dix across the Spotted-E-Town 4 whack and back. This trip is aga
in reposted due to wet weather and also beaver activity that has substantia
lly changed the landscape. By this time you will need crampons for your bo

ing and orienteering skills with us! \n\nPLEASE NOTE: The meetup for this
trip will possibly change to the afternoon before -- weather permitting\,
we may change this trip to a two-day camping trip -- send me your thoughts
about this and STAY TUNED! Regardless\, the trailhead start time morning-
of is about 8:30 a.m. ... giving us plenty of time to complete this hike.
So far the weather for Sunday is looking good!\n\nAlso ... note that there
is a herd path to the right of the slide in case it's deemed too slippery .
.. however\, this trip will DEFINITELY BE POSTPONED IF WEATHER IS LIKELY TO
BE WET! Poles and friction devices for boots\, such as micro-spikes\, "Y

is trip for months ... my friend Maureen and I tried to ascend this slide l
ast September but failed\, mainly as her dog couldn't negotiate the slipper
y slide. The final rocky ascent is pretty hairy! This bushwhack begins wi
th a very well defined (and absolutely beautiful\, though tricky!) walk up
the narrow Bouquet River valley\, then the great ascent up the Great Slide
of Dix\; then across the eastern Dix ridgeline over the two bumps to Spotte
d Mountain\, then slowly downward to the strangely named "Elizabethtown 4"
 Mountain (where the heck is Elizabethtown 1\, 2 and 3?!?). Fortunately\, y
ou'll find all the information you need right here to successfully navigate

SUMMARY:Capital Region Business Council November Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Capital Region Business Council\n\nCapital Region Business Coun
cil will meet on October 24th. Due to business travel I was unable to soli
cit new members and solicit the meetup as aggresively as I wanted to . Thi
s delay will allow me to capitalize on the time needed to have a successful
meetup for the Group and all members. I do apologize but I also value eac
h and every members time and want to have the best meeting we can have. As
I had stated before we have our own caterer for our event. The New Locati
on will be announced. It is practical to pay $700 for Desmond with 50 peop
le attending but for 7 people to attend its impractical. Any suggestions a
re always welcomed and anyone who looks to get together prior to the meetup
I encourage you to contact me.\n\nCheers to all who have joined and Cheers
to our 1st Successful meetup for all \n\nSincerely \n\nMichael Velardi\n\n
