SUMMARY:Davis Peak With Scree Hike To Lakes
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Outdoor Adventurers Meetup\n\nIt looks like it is going
to be a scorcher\, sunny and 82 at 5000 feet. \nSo bring plenty of water
at least 3 quarts possibly 4. I don't remember there being any kind of wat
er source to filter water along the trail. Also don't forget the sunscreen
lotion. \n\n\n\nPlease read entire hike description befor making a decisio
n in signing up.\n\nWell I will warn people right off the bat this will be
an all day very\, very strenuous hike with off trail scree hiking. \nStat
s:Hike up to the peak will be 11 miles rt with 3900 feet of gain and right
at the trailhead the ascent is similar to mailbox peak if not a little stee
per for about a mile. \nOnce we get to the peak itself the next half of th
e adventure will be the steep scree hike/ski\, depending on size of rocks\,
down to two lakes. I am not sure the name of the lakes. I haven't done t
he scree part of the hike\, but it looks like it would be similar to the la
st part of the hike up Mt. Saint Helens just before you reach the crater ri
m\, and the hike down then back up the scree will add a total to 2 to 4 mil
es more.\n\nStill have your interest. Davis Peak is in the Tenaway area ov
er looking the peaks around Mt. Stuart. Once at the top the views are abso
lutely spectacular. From the ridge and the actual peak of Davis the two is
olated lakes come into view down at the bottom of this large scree field.
When I did the hike up to Davis last year and saw those lakes I commented I
must get back here and head down to those lakes.\nHopefully it will be a "
blast" going down the scree field depending on the size of the rocks. The
real challange will be heading back up this huge field. As I mentioned if
you have climbed Mt. Saint Helens and remember the last upper part before t
he rim it will be a similar ascent rate. As far as when we head back up t
he scree field to the ridge I will try to find a route that will have mediu
m size rocks or boulders which would make the climb back up easier than loo
se scree and taking one step up than sliding back a half of step. So there
might be some easy climbing involved heading back up. \n\nNow when we get
to the top of Davis and I see that there is still snow in the scree field w
e won't head down. Also if there is any predictions for thunderstorms in t
he area for that date I will cancel the hike. So before makeing a decision
in signing up be realistic about your hiking abilities and ask yourself ar
you ready for this kind of gain\, comfortable with off trail scree hiking\
, not afraid to do some possible easy climbing. If you have any doubts ple
ase do not sign up. Once you make a commitment of heading up Mt. Davis an
d then the scree field to the lakes and then you decide you are not going t
o be able to make it you will be heading back on your own. Also remember i
t could be pretty hot in that area at that time so bring plenty of water\,
around 3 quarts. I figure it will probably take about 8 hours for the hike.
Any questions email me back. One other thing I don't allow "maybe" so pl
ease don't sign up for "yes" and say you might come. It is not fair for pe
ople on the wait list who definitely want and know they can make it. \n\nJa

SUMMARY:4th of July Overnight at Blake Island - Experience and kayak requir
 ed.
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group\n\nLets paddle out to Bl
ake Island early Saturday morning to watch the fireworks in the evening. T
his is a long crossing - about 3.5 miles exposed to southerly winds and cro
ssing commercial shipping lanes. An intermediate level paddler can do it i
n one hour\, but if there's slower paddlers and weather it may take longer.
\n\n\nSlack flood begins at 7:55am so we will need to be ready to launch be
fore 8am. (A second option would be to launch at 4pm\, but we may not be g
uaranteed a campsite and boat traffic for the fireworks may be heavy)\n\nWe
will launch from Lowman Beach in West Seattle. More details will be poste
d as the time draws near.\n\n\nLets bring the usual 4th of July potluck pic
nic foods\, as well as some kites and frisbees to play with at the beach.
\n\nYou will need to have your own kayak\, safety equip\, wet/dry suit\, an
d camping gear. A few camp stoves and a vhf radio will also be useful.\n\n

SUMMARY:NON MEETUP EVENT: Appleseed Shoot in Castle Rock
DESCRIPTION:Greater Seattle/Snohomish Co. We Surround Them GlennBeck912\n\n
 http://www.eventbrite.com/event/238926636\n\nCastle Rock\, WA Appleseed - J
 uly 4-5\, 2009\nSaturday\, July 04\, 2009 at 8:30 AM - Sunday\, July 05\, 2
009 at 4:00 PM (PT)\n\n\nWhat the RWVA (Revolutionary War Veterans Associat
ion) is all about: \nThe Appleseed Program is designed to take you from bei
ng a simple rifle owner to being a true rifleman. All throughout American h
istory\, the rifleman has been defined as a marksman capable of hitting a m
an-sized target from 500 yards away — no ifs\, ands or buts about it. This
500-yard range is traditionally known as "the rifleman's quarter-mile\;" a
rifleman can hit just about any target he can see. This skill was particula
ry evident in the birth of our country\, and was the difference in winning
the Revolutionary War. \n\nSo why me? \nThis country was founded and won by
riflemen who fought and beat British forces. We invite all interested mark
smen to learn the skills and techniques necessary to shoot proficiently\; a
nd then hope you'll participate in teaching and practicing with others so t
hat together we can save this great land. Why you? Well\, that's simple: if
you're on this page we're betting you're a patriot\, and we hope you answe
 r the call.\n\nWhat's a rifleman? \nIn short\, a rifleman is an armed Ameri
can\, trained in the tradition of American Liberty. It's a man who has lear
ned to shoot a rifle accurately — accurate enough to score "expert" on the
Army Qualification Course. Until you can do that\, you're considered a "Coo
k\," unprepared and unqualified to carry a rifle on the firing line of free
dom. But after attending an Appleseed AQT shoot\, you'll have the credentia
ls necessary to be a true rifleman\, and will understand the critical need
for defending freedom in this country.\n\nThe RWVA is dedicated to the Appl
eseed Program and encourages every American to learn to shoot.\n\nSeattle\,

SUMMARY:4th Raft Up
DESCRIPTION:Shilsholed Meetup Group\n\nLast year's 4th was a blast. We'll
be rafting up with some boats from PSSG (another meet-up group). We're loo
king for boat owners (especially boat owners with dinghies!) who are intere
sted in going. If you have extra room on your boat and want guests let Ken
V know of PSSG (and join PSSG). \n\nI'll (Ben on the Westsail 28) will be
heading to Lake Union around 10am on the 4th and will be anchoring over ni

we will meet\, it is less likely an IG will run out of the park--but if yo
u have an escape artist we'd recommend a leash. Also\, this is NOT a small
-dogs-only area--there WILL be big dogs. There are always risks in such a
situation so please protect your IG first! For those who are not sure abou
t their IGs\, keeping them on lead the first few times is highly recommende
 d. I sure did! Letta is still allowed ONLY on leash.\n\nAll those caveat
s aside\, we hope you can meet us to enjoy a great run. The official Meetu
p will begin at the circular area at the center of the park at about 11:45
and we usually hang out there for awhile to be sure everyone has joined us.
Then we walk the trails and fields. Good directions to the park can be fo
 und at http://www.metrokc.gov/Parks/marymoor/\n\nRedmond \, WA 98052 - USA

SUMMARY:Annual 4th of July picnic
DESCRIPTION:The Seattle Vegan Meetup Group\n\nWe've had a successful picnic
at Cowen Park on July 4 for several years\, so we're continuing the tradit
ion.\n\nThis meetup is open to anybody\, as with any of our meetups. \n\nY
es\, this is the same location as the early June meetup.\n\nPlease feel fre
e to bring guests\, veg*n or otherwise\, but please ensure that food you br
ing is vegan. It'd also be terrific to add a comment here listing what you
'll be bringing so that others can plan accordingly.\n\nWe should have at l
east one grill. \n\nBringing your own plate/cup/utensils would be an excel
lent idea\, as last year we ran out. Katrina has a good point that you can
reduce your impact on the planet by going reusable\, and Anthony would lik
e to point out that plasticware that you get from other sources when you do
n't have a choice washes and reuses just fine.\n\nWe'll try to snag the pic
nic table under the tree by the playground.\n\nSeattle\, WA 98102 - USA\n\

SUMMARY:Fire up the Fireworks Paddle & Brew Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group\n\nWith the 4th falling
on a Saturday\, I thought we should do a paddle to watch the Fireworks on L
ake Union. This year it is rumored to be sponsored by JP Morgan/Chase Bank.
\n\nKeep in mind that it tends to get pretty crowded out on the lake and we
will start heading back a few minutes before the end\, then pause to watch
the last shots. I like us to get past the crowd of potentially drunk power
boaters before the converge under the University bridge\, that's why we st
art back before the last fireworks shot. After the paddle we can head over
to a local watering hole.\n\nEveryone needs to bring a flashlight or a head
lamp for safety.\n\nI can bring 8 single and 5 tandem kayaks replete with l
ife jackets and paddles (that means up to 18 of you can borrow one of my bo
ats\, others will need to bring their own). We'll go over some safety stuff
and then head out for a paddle to get to know each other.\n\nWhat to bring
: \n\no Prepare to get wet\, You might want to bring a towel and change of
clothes. \no Water bottle. There's water and restrooms at the park. \no Ref
reshments and snacks for afterwards \no Your sense of adventure and fun \no
Headlamp - for paddling back after dark.\n\nIn the RSVP let me know if you
need to borrow a boat or if you'll be bringing your own.\n\nSo far I am br

SUMMARY:Blake Island Overnighter - kayak camping trip - Experience required
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group\n\nWe'll be launching on
Sunday and paddling to Blake Island\, probably from West Seattle near Linc

n\nWe will be crossing a fairly busy shipping channel\, which means we need
to monitor the VHF radios and stay out of the way.\n\nTo go on this trip y
ou will need to wear a drysuit or a wetsuit and have passed at least a self

anyone who desires to do so as we cannot be in judgment of anothers' consci

SUMMARY:Redmond Town Center / Marymoor Park Walk
DESCRIPTION:Peaceful Sunday Mornings on the Eastside\n\nThis is one that we
have done several times in the past and has always been one of our more po

ont of Starbucks and the Bear Fountain. From the Town Center we will contin
ue down along the Sammamish Slough into Marymoor Park and depending how far
everyone wants to go\, maybe down to Lake Sammamish. We also have the opti
on of stopping somewhere for lunch afterwards. The Redmond Town Center has
a lot of great places. All together this will be about a 4-5 mile walk (rou
nd trip) and should last a couple of hours. \nThis is a dog friendly walk f
or anyone who would like to bring their dog along. \n\nDirections: \nFrom I
-405 just north of downtown Bellevue\, exit onto 520 east towards Redmond.
Go east 4.5 miles and take the Lake Sammamish Parkway exit and turn left at
the light onto Lake Sammamish Parkway. Continue down to the next light and
turn right on Leary Way. At the second light\, turn right on Bear Creek Pa

SUMMARY:Upper Green River Loop
DESCRIPTION:The Seattle Bicycling Meetup Group\n\nSorry for the short notic
e on this one. Let's do a ride in the south end! The Upper Green River Loop
is a variation of a ride out of Bicycling the Backroads Around Puget Sound
By Bill and Erin Woods. We'll start off from the Auburn/Black Diamond Park
and Ride off SR 18 and warm up with about 9.5 miles of a fairly flat rural
road to Flaming Geyser Park. A quick pit stop for water\, restroom breaks\
, and stretching and we're off for some hill climbing up to the Black Diamo
nd Bakery where we can partake in some of their wonderful carbs. Back on th
e road we'll ride up through the Green River Gorge across a one lane bridge
with a great view of the river below and then a thrilling downhill back to
Flaming Geyser Park for another pit stop. (make sure your brakes are in go
od shape) The rest of the trip is a return along the flat rural route. I r
ode the route today on my motorcycle and the views of Mt. Rainier are spect
acular. This ride is totally on the road. Traffic is light and the shoulde
rs are good. I mapped out the ride on the link below.\n\nhttp://maps.google

SUMMARY:Little Si (MODERATE)
DESCRIPTION:Eastside Hikers Meetup Group\n\nHi folks! This is Kat and I'm g
oing to be helping out on this hike\, but would love another Assistant Orga
nizer! I bumped back the start time seeing as how some of us may be up late
the night before with all the explosions and whatnot So consider this you
 r hangover-buster!\n\n**********************************************\n\nBy
request\, we will do Little Si again...this one is MODERATE for this group.
..you can do it!!\n\nLittle Si is a distinct mountain apart from the better
known and more visited Mount Si. Located across a valley to the west of it
s big brother Little Si has a summit elevation of 1\,576 and gives those wh
 o hike it a climb of 1\,053 feet.\n\nIt's semi-steep but short\, as in 1/4t
h of regular Mt Si...great view on a clear day...plenty of trees to protect
you from any rain or if it's sunny out. We did this in 1:15 last time and
we were having photo shoots all the way up.\n\nElevation plus other info o
n Little Si can be found here http://www.trailmeister.com/MAP_WA_LittleSi.h
tm\n\nPlease be on time or early as parking is really tough on nice days\,
and if you want to carpool from Eastgate Park 'n Ride please note in your R
SVP with your cell# and details. We usually meet on the EAST side of the p
arking lot under the overpass\, so you have to access it via Eastgate Way t
o get to it.\n\nI suggest folks meet to carpool an hour before hike time fr
om Eastgate park 'n ride to save on gas and reduce number of cars at parkin
g lot...it's about 30 mins to the trailhead by car from there.\n\nAs always
\, if you know of a geocache there\, please print the details and bring the
m with you with GPS.\n\nIf anyone has the elevation info on this one please
feel free to post it in the notes here or email me and I will update it.\n

SUMMARY:Waterfront Park Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Parks and Picnics Meetup\n\nThis is a bit of an unusual
park\, set in a very urban environment\, but Seattle calls it a park so .
. . we go!\n\nFrom the Seattle Parks and Recreation Website:\nComprising th
e area from Pier 57 to Pier 59\, this park is lined with lamps\, benches\,
and high\, curving railings. From either of two pink metal viewing platform
s\, reached both by stairs and a wheelchair-accessible ramp\, you can enjoy
excellent views of the city skyline\, the waterfront\, the ships in drydoc
k\, container cranes\, the West Seattle Bridge\, Magnolia Bluff\, Blake Isl
 and\, Bainbridge\, and\, on a clear day\, the Olympic Mountains. Occasional
ly you may even see a seal. Four coin-operated telescopes on the sidewalk o
ffer view assistance.\n\nAt the north end of the park\, nearest the Seattle
Aquarium\, are benches\, picnic tables\, and some trees in planters. Water
front Fountain and its surrounding stairs and walls break up the space into
interesting places to linger and enjoy your lunch.\n\nWaterfront Fountain
is made of cast and welded bronze shaped in cubical structures. The sculptu
re was begin by James FitzGerald and\, in collaboration with the sculptor's
widow\, Margaret Tompkins\, was completed by Terry Copple. (Other public f
ountains by sculptor James FitzGerald are located at the IBM Building \, Pl
ymouth Congregational Church \, Intiman Playhouse \, and Jefferson Terrace
Retirement Home \; all are bronze.) At the south end of the park\, a somewh
at larger than life bronze abstract statue of Christopher Columbus gazes ou
t at the water.\n\nThe Aquarium building can be entered from the top of the
northernmost viewing platform\, as well as from the street. There are publ

s nice walk through the sloughs of Everett. Ok\, I know 'slough' doesn't s
ound very appealing. However\, these trails have a reputation for some gre
at bird watching and there really is some nice scenery. Let's picnic after
ward! This will truly be more of a social event than anything.\n\nYou may
be able to arrange carpools with other members who live in your neighborhoo
 d. I'm able to take up to 5 people from the Lynnwood Transit Center. If y
ou need to carpool\, please mention it in your RSVP.\n\nLangus Riverfront P
ark\n\nThe Langus Riverfront Trail is three miles in length and is paved to
allow walking\, jogging and biking. It is also a great vantage point to se
e waterfowl\, raptors and shorebirds. Take this trail for one way to acces
s the Spencer Island trails.\n\n\nSpencer Island Park\n\nThis can be combin
ed with the Langus Riverfront Trail as you have to take it to get to Spence

Dogs are allowed only in the north part of the Spencer Island Trails.\n\n
Spencer Island has a small network of trails and is one of the best places
in the Snohomish River Estuary for bird watching. Other small animals have
been seen here\, including deer\, coyote\, river otter\, and other small ma
mmals and amphibians. The island has a dike top trail system\, which provid
es scenic views of the wetlands\, sloughs and mountains.\n\nThe island is c
o-owned by Snohomish County and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildl
ife. Snohomish County owns the south half of the island\, while WDFW owns t
he north half. The property line is approximately 1\,400 feet north of the
bridge. Please note that dogs are only allowed in the north half of the par
 k.\n\nDirections to meetup location:\n\nFrom Seattle\, drive north on I-5 t

SUMMARY:Relief from Trauma with Shamanic Meditation July Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Relief from Trauma with Shamanic Meditation\n\nIn shamanic medi
tations we experience relief and carry those feelings into our everyday lif
 e. The mind is more calm. We are able to breathe freely. No longer respond
ing in old ways we create happiness in spite of our current situation or th
e hectic pace of our daily life. \n\nMeditation is a tool for change. The
goal of mediation is to achieve mystical states of consciousness. Shamanic
meditation is a tool for spiritual growth while accessing these states. Med
itations intent is to induce a state of profound harmony\, and increased aw
areness.\n\nIn the simpler civilizations of the ancients\, they lived in a
constant meditative state. Moving in daily activity\, fully present at all
times they enjoyed the presence of their meditation state. By taking the t
ime to meditate we live more healthy\, happy\, and whole.\n\nAnything is po
ssible in the shaman’s realm of non-ordinary reality. This is the realm of
creative innovative thinking. With the power of guided imagery\, intent and
rhythm access deeper levels of consciousness. Therein lay creative answers
to life’s important questions. With access to this vast well of knowledge
we relax\, self assured in our ability to care for ourselves and our loved
ones. \n\nTake a quantum leap in consciousness and heal the earth as well.
Shamanic practices are being used in our society today. Drumming\, dancing
\, breathing and meditation open doorways to this ancient body of knowledge
. Come join us on this incredible path of personal power.\n\nRedmond\, WA

SUMMARY:Seattle International Beerfest
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Veg Happy Hour\n\nLast year was my first time at SIB an
 d I got a bit more than I bargained for--which made the $20 price a little
easier to bear. Depending on how you spend your 10 beer tickets\, you could
get up to 40 oz of various beers from all over the world\, should you so c
hoose. (Even more if you show up for HH.)\n\nI wouldn't mind changing the m
eetup time if there's demand for it\, it's just a bit last minute. I decide
d to schedule this closer to the beerfest's actual happy hour from 12-1. Th
is way anyone looking for extra beer tickets can show up a bit early and ma
ke the most of their $20\n\nCheck out the Beerfest site for more info: http
 ://www.seattlebeerfest.com\n\nPS - There's a $5 entry for non-drinkers and
a free re-entry policy (if you have your wristband and glass). Lightweights
and middleweights who don't want to get drunk could make the experience mo
re affordable by taking advantage of the lower price and sharing the 10 bee
r tickets. You could also go earlier in the festival and come back to join
us on Sunday! (but you won't get more tickets just for going back!)\n\nSeat

brief list of topics may help:\n"Using collaborative filtering to weave an

ated by this book. It is offered as a resource for methods and their discu

e course with this field of writing.\n\nWe also have a core group that offe
rs open enrollment in designing A.I. code that ostensibly is in the pursuit
of the Netflix Challenge. You will see those Meetups listed here\, as the

SUMMARY:Come get some comedy country style!
DESCRIPTION:Funny in Seattle\n\nGreetings Lovers of Laughter\,\n\nBy the ti
me this show rolls around\, I hope you have had your fill of fireworks. \n\
nHere is a chance to see a different and funny style of comedy improvised w
ith a country twist. Honky Tonk from Unexpected Productions 'is like its ow
n country music ballad\, complete with beer guzzling\, heart ache\, fighti
ng\, and friendship. Set in a Honky Tonk bar the characters create meaningf
ul stories about hurt and longing\, where pain and lust are a part of every
day life. Though the characters may be inspired to sing\, this ain't no mus
ical: sometimes a cowboy's just gotta croon. Think Hank Williams and Waylon
Jennings\, in Enumclaw\, slinging back whiskeys and telling tales.'\n\nSo
come out to the Market Theater for some funny.\n\nAnd if anyone is interest
 ed\, maybe getting a bite or drinks nearby before.\n\nSeattle\, WA 98101 -
