SUMMARY:Scrappink in Fairmont Crop **SEE LOCATION UPDATE FOR THIS CROP**
DESCRIPTION:Scrapbooking Meetups > The Fairmont Scrapbooking Meetup Group\n
\nI HAVE RESCHEDULED THE SEPTEMBER CROP FOR THE 27TH @ FAIRMONT STATE PIERP
ONT & TECHNICAL COLLEGE WHERE I DO THE QUARTERLY CROPS ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT
MY FIRST CHOICE IT IS A LOCATION MOST OF US ARE USED TO AND BESIDES WE CAN
AFFORD IT! LOL....TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ATTEND THE WVU HOME FOOTBALL GAMES I
AM SOOOO SORRY - I KNOW THAT IT IS WVU VS MARSHALL! I WILL TRY TO MAKE SURE
THAT FOR FUTURE CROPS WHEN POSSIBLE\, I WILL WORK AROUND WVU'S SCHEDULE TO
O!\n\nIn September the magazine\, Scrapbooks etc.\, is partnering with Susa
n G. Komen for the Cure® to hold a “Scrap Pink” fundraising campaign for br
east cancer. Although most are held at independent retail stores across Nor
th America\, individual groups may also host a Scrappink Event so that is t
he theme for our September Crop. Thanks go to Deb Nelson for letting me kno
w about the nationwide event!!\n\nIn case you don't know about Susan G. Kom
en for the Cure\, here is a little history.\n\nNancy G. Brinker promised he
r dying sister\, Susan G. Komen\, that she would do everything in her power
to end breast cancer forever.\n\nIn 1982\, that promise became Susan G. Ko
men for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today\, Ko
men for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer
survivors and activists fighting to save lives\, empower people\, ensure q
uality care for all and energize science to find the cures. With the goal o
f winning this fight\, Komen has committed to invest another $2 billion dol
lars over the next decade with the goal of achieving its ultimate vision of
a world without breast cancer.\n\nBreast cancer is the most common type of
cancer among women in the US and is the leading cause of cancer deaths amo
ng women age 40-59. It is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer d
eath among women.\nBreast cancer accounts for one of every three cancer dia
gnoses in women. Nearly 200\,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive brea
st cancer this year and about 40\,000 women will die from breast cancer thi
s year. An additional 60\,000 new cases of in situ breast cancer are expect
ed to occur in women this year.\n\nThere are over two million breast cancer
survivors alive today in the U.S. and the number of deaths due to breast c
ancer seems to be declining. A combination of earlier detection and more ef
fective treatment is thought to be responsible for these declining rates.\n
\nI am sure that every one of us knows someone - a grandmother\, a mother\,
a sister\, an aunt or just a friend who has been afflicted with this disea
se. As a participating event group\, we will be making a donation to the Su
san G Komen for the Cure foundation. We may not be a large group and will d
efinitely not be able to make as large a donation as the retailers but ever
y penny that is donated for this important cause is one step closer to poss
ibly finding a cure.\n\nIn September\, the crop fee will be $8.00 and we wi
ll donate $4.00 of each fee to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
In addition if anyone would like to try to collect outside donations\, we w
ould be happy to add them to the donation that we send in.\n\nWe are also o
rdering Scrappink T-shirts. They are $6.50 for sizes medium\, large and x-l
arge. XXL are an additional $2.00\n\nIf you would like to order one\, pleas
 e send your money to:\nDebbie Cooper\nRt 7 Box 271A\nFairmont\, WV 26554 by
