Let's go See Monty Alexander & Harlem-Kingston Express @ Birdland Jazz. I met the Harlem Kingston Express Band @ the Aspen Airport in February, we had a discussion about jazz and they told me they would be performing @ Birdland in May and I told them I would check them out. Ive enjoyed their youtube videos, so Im sure they will put on a great show.

I have access $5 admission tickets, but Birdland still has a $10 drink/food minimum for all tickets.  If you want a ticket from me you must prepay for the ticket via PAYPAL. My paypal address:[masked].

*Please note its not necessary to get a ticket from me, you can purchase tickets on, or pay @ the door.

In a career spanning five decades, pianist Monty Alexander has built a reputation for exploring and bridging the worlds of American jazz, popular song and the music of his native Jamaica, finding in each a sincere spirit of musical expression. Monty has performed and recorded with a wide array of renowned artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Clark Terry, Quincy Jones, Ernest Ranglin, Bill Cosby, Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare and others. As a leader, Monty Alexander has recorded over 60 albums to date, and has reinterpreted the music of a diverse collection of his favorite artists including Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Bob Marley. Monty's "Harlem Kingston Express" features both a jazz rhythm section and a Jamaican reggae flavored rhythm section. Sometimes, the two-bands-in-one play together, other times they alternate seamlessly, as the eclectic music demands.

"Monty Alexander presented his refined concept of groove with the recent Harlem-Kingston Express project, blending a jazz trio and a steaming reggae unit, weaving back and forth between the idioms with orchestral finesse." (Downbeat Magazine)
