Poetry Month Party

"Exuberance sips bootleg gin from a garter flask

with a ruby monogram 'E.'"

We simply cannot let April end without celebrating Poetry Month!

For an equally arresting ending, you can follow the rest of the poem here:

http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poem/247436

And here, too, you can browse and pick a poem that surprises, alarms, or devastates you. I'm partly joking....It doesn't have to be that bad. But perhaps we can avoid the English Romantic Poetry trap. We've all been there and elsewhere familiar.

So, pick a poem to read to the group. Bring copies to pass around. And time yourself! You'll have about 5 minutes. Or just come to listen.

Also, what celebration would be it without cakes and ale? So bring a contribution to the party!

If you're interested, here's a link to the email subscription to the Library of Congress for a poem a day (or so). See the "Subscribe" link at the top of the page.

And while I'm at it, here's the place for literary t-shirts (and other odds and ends).

Hi all, have you picked your poem and refreshment of choice already? You can let us know now...or a little later. Looking forward to sampling all the riches!

Hi ! Can you offer a suggestion on what I could bring? It's my first meeting with your group. Is this event strictly non alcoholic ?

Sara, alcohol is not out of the question. Some wine, or dare I say, sangria, would be very nice indeed. Or cake. Or chocolate. Or something surprising, like good liquorice. Any of these would make our poetry party more fun. See you Sunday!

I'm bringing a poem by Don Share and Easter bread. Is anyone planning to bring paper plates?

Arlinda, what a great idea! I'm boiled with enthusiasm for this party that brings the poe out in everyone. Thought I missed it since I missed last time, there's nothing like hope and hope renewed. Wonderful! Thank you!

Hi, This is my first time meeting up with this group! I am very excited is there anything I need to know or bring besides a poem?

    April 22, 2014

    • Arlinda S.

We look forward to meeting you, Mel! Since this is a celebration, feel free to bring something to drink or eat. I'd be happy to offer a few suggestions if you like.
