"Outside of a dog, a book is woman's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."— Groucho Marx
“I read to be taken out of myself, to become ecstatic.” —Henry Miller
I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who gave many a classic book a pass while growing up. Yet our teachers were right: there is a literary currency that these works provide. Did they mention untold pleasure? I can't recall. However, my favorite reason for reading and re-reading classics is this: "A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say."(Thank you, Italo Calvino.)
This book club is your chance to sit down and finally read Anna Karenina, Don Quixote, Pride and Prejudice, and also those somewhat forgotten classics and even recent works of similar resonance. The books can span any time period or place, and our reading list is forever growing and expanding based on your suggestions.
