Intro to Sailing : Class #1 Part 2 - On the Water

FINAL UPDATE: May 18th, 3:30pm -- We are GO for sailing at the dike tomorrow.  My red Jeep and 2 Sunfish boats should show up right around 11am.  Winds will be stronger than desired, so we will be even more careful than usual.   We expect to end this sailing session around 2pm, when the winds will be increasing even more. I have life jackets for people.  Bring your own if you desire.  Remember to bring membership fees ($75) if you are not already a member, and we'll get you to sign the waiver if you have not yet done so.  Also remember there is a separate $5 fee to enter onto the dike.

UPDATE:  May 18th,  10am:  We are continuing to assess wind predictions. Still predicting 15 knot winds with gusts exceeding 20 knots.  That's too high for good student education.   I will make a final update at 4pm today. Please check back at that time before proceeding to the dike.

UPDATE: May 16th. We are continuing to monitor the wind predictions and water temperatures for Sunday.  So far, the water temperatures are improving as you might see below,  but they are still pretty cool (we want to see 80F). The wind predictions are reasonable: at least they are from the South on Sunday but they are a bit high: 15 knots.   So watch this site for updates on Saturday to confirm that we are still on for Sunday.  Let's hope so!  I am excited.

UPDATE: We are moving this session to Sunday, May 19th.   The reason is weather -- the water temperatures are still a bit too cool (but that won't be a problem in a week), there is a 50% chance of rain on Saturday, and the winds at the dike are expected to be from the Northeast, which is problematic for our sailing.   Last year, we had extensive damage to one of our boats due to wave interactions with winds from this direction out there on the dike.  We'll explain this more when you do show up for the session on the 19th.

For those of you who took the Introduction to Sailing class on April 20th, we are now planning the "On the Water" demo portion. Please sign up if you plan to attend. Obviously, this is weather permitting. Check back on this site the night before the event to see if the event is still on. Remember to bring beach clothing, and there is a $5 fee to enter onto the dike for the day. Also, you will not be permitted to use our sailboats unless you are a paid member and have signed the waiver form. Please remember to bring a checkwith you for $75 (made out to Clear Lake Sailing Club).

Good turnout. Great day, winds a little high for learning but still had plenty if students sail!

Sorry to miss this but we have a wedding on May 19th. Could we attend a future demo class?

Sure. Just stay tuned to our MEET UP site for future events. Or better yet: bring the wedding party to the dike.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
