The Greater Cleveland Writers Meet up Group Monthly Meetup

  • This location is shown only to members

We'll introduce new visitors, and do a quick recap of what every one is working on. Bring samples of your 'work' to share, or a question, a struggle, .... this group has a ton of experience, or at least a ton of empathy. Also, this is NOT just for children's fiction. Any writer is welcome, and genre. Sci-Fi, Fiction, Fantasy, Technical, Non-Fiction, you name it.... We will stay in the main area of books, but can also discuss freelancing to magazines, zines, blogging for fun and profit, you name it. Create a 30 second elevator speech on your work, and why some one should publish it.... and where? If you don't know what an elevator speech is, that's ok, once you join you can access an elevator speech template in our files section! Most importantly, what are you willing to do about getting published? Or what does being published mean to you. You'd be surprised how many writers never intend to make money from their writing, but just want to be published.
I'll also discuss what I find are the top 5 reasons most writers never publish, if things get dull, and so far they never have!. I will also cover 5 tactics you can use to get published.
Our home is at Vision 21 which is at: 1495 Warren Road, Lakewood, OH 44107. Questions or concerns email me [masked] Size is limited to 35 people. If you RSVP 'yes' please show up because we reserve space . I request every one who joins us to kick in $5, or bring an item to share. If things are tight, come anyway. These venues open their doors to us. Please be considerate. I know budgets are tight, but this keeps the venue eager to see us again next month.

I enjoyed meeting everyone last night. It was great to hear such diverse writing - from science fiction to poetry - all in one sitting.

I hope I didn't come across as too critical. I learned to write at Ohio State University, where the profs wouldn't let the writer leave the table until everyone had given at least one note the writer could use for revising their next draft. But it was great to see such support and encouragement, which is just as important.

I look forward to getting to know all of you - and your writing - much better.

Loved it. There is such diversity within this group. I wish I could attend the Winking Lizard outing but know I would find it difficult to teach tomorrow! BTW, what is the protocol for reading signups? Is it done upon entrance to the room?

Yes, just come in and put your name on the board. First come, first serve!

I think that the Meetup Group meeting on April 2, 2013, was usual -- extremely friendly, supportive group of incredibly talented writers. I like the new table arrangement which I think allows for more room for participants. For me personally, I think that 2.5 hours of meeting length is a bit too long after I work all day.

Hey, I just registered, and I've never been to a meeting before. I see there's a space to RSVP for a guest. Can I invite my husband to come along?
