Mandela: Shaker Square/Sasa

*********PLEASE NOTE: TIME and LOCATION CHANGE *************

Mandela's long life, intertwined with the history of South Africa, is so inspiring and interesting that a two hour movie cannot do it justice. And, many of the reviews attest to that. However, the actor who plays Mandela is getting rave reviews...and, that is good enough for me. Hope you can join us!

4:05PM MOVIE at Shaker Square Cinemas

Meet us in the lobby ahead of time, look for us in the theater, or catch up with us near the outer doors after the film.

7:00PM DINNER/DISCUSSION at SASA

Just in case you don't connect with the group after the film, proceed over to the restaurant and ask to sit at the "Movie Group" table.

Just a quick walk next door.

Synopsis:

MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM is based on South African President Nelson Mandela's autobiography of the same name, which chronicles his early life, coming of age, education and 27years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country's
once segregated society. Idris Elba (PROMETHEUS) stars as Nelson Mandela with
Justin Chadwick (THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL) directing. (c) Weinstein

An inspiring movie filled with acts of courage and moral beauty. The song by my favorite group U2 was a bonus! As always, I loved my time with the group at the restaurant.

Film was better than I expected and did not seem too long --even though it was 2.5 hrs! However, at the end, I had even more questions than when I walked in....and, I suppose that is a good sign. Great conversation and fun times at SASA. Thanks to all who came.

What I learned after watching Mandela: now I know his first name is Nelson and he had two wives, didn't become the president until he was 76, was in jail for 28 yrs... all I knew before watching the movie --> he was a black leader and president of South Africa...haha, I am pretty ignorant

Not at all ignorant. Instead, I saw you (as I sat next to you at SASA) as open for information, not afraid to admit not knowing something. That spells great wisdom to me!

I really enjoyed the movie and the company afterwards at SASA. (And the food. YUM!) I liked seeing the social and cultural changes through the years in different settings and learning more about Nelson Mandela the man. I just now realized that in the years covered (1946 to 1994 or so) the urban set changed, but the rural set was timeless ... and eternally beautiful and peaceful.

The movie was very interesting because it really is about relationships, forgiveness, anger, truth and perserverance.I loved the food and conversation afterwatds.

I enjoyed the movie very much. I thought the scene when he was released from prison failed to capture the momentous nature of the moment. But it was informative and the acting was spot on.

The SASA menu is online. I have copied and pasted many of the menu terms into google to see what they are, as I am not familiar with Japanese cooking. I have made my dinner choice!

I think I said yes for restaurant but, if not, here is my definite YES.:)

IMPORTANT: Please say "yes" or "no" for restaurant! I need to make reservations and I need an exact number!

    Thanks-
