"Dancing in Jaffa" Cedar Lee Theater / Dewey's Pizza

I had to change the movie as Joe is no longer playing.   Renowned ballroom dancer Pierre Dulaine returns to Jaffa to fulfill his lifelong dream of teaching dance to Jewish-Israeli and Palestinian-Israeli children. Here, we follow four different children, all of whom who are forced to confront issues of identity, segregation and racial prejudice, as they dance with their enemy. The classroom becomes a microcosm of the Middle East's struggle to work together harmoniously while still caught in the politics of the region and race. With the guidance of Pierre, the children, who live uneasily side-by-side, learn to dance together and trust one another.

7:15 the movie starts.

Meet near the entrance door to the theater 5 minutes ahead of time or look for the group inside the theater or meet us afterward by the door.

We will meet in the lobby afterwards and walk over to Dewey's Pizza afterwards for discussion.  Dewey's does not take reservations--but at 9:00 they usually have plenty of room for the group and the food is good and the service is good.

FEE

The $5.00 yearly fee (or $1.50 for one movie) goes toward charges incurred for using the MeetUp website. You can access PayPal (see link in left hand column) or pay your fee to the Organizer at the event.

NOTE TO FIRST TIME GOERS

If this is your first movie with the group, there is no fee to attend.

This group has been successful partly because members have a genuine interest in meeting fellow independent movie goers. We don't always know where to look for you, especially first timers.  Consider posting your picture and printing out the pictures of the attendees to help find everyone easier.

We have multiple meeting places:

Entrance door to the movie in the theater hallway 5-10 minutes before the movie starts

By the entrance door or ticket office after the movie

We don't always sit together in the movie theater but if you see a bunch of people talking about good movies they have seen, it is probably us. Please join in. We are always happy to get new people involved.

NOTE TO ALL

In the world of Independent films, it is recommended that you check back a few days before the event to make sure the movie, restaurant, location or time has not changed.

A cute movie about children dancing and becoming friends with their parents "enemy". It was a decent replacement for Joe. Great conversation and pizza afterwards with the group! Thanks everyone for coming!!

Thanks for informing us, Harlan. However, Vivian Meyer is scheduled for Monday-organized by Alan and Budapest was already seen by the group. So, both of those are out.
The only possibilities are Dancing in Jaffa or Ernest & Celestine. It is Karen's decision!

looks like Joe is pretty well gone - I only see a 2:00 show. what are we going to see instead? I haven't seen Budapest or Vivian Meyer. I have seen Le Week-end and Railway Man.

Took my mom to see this tonight. It is pretty disturbing and violent, fair warning, but great acting and story.
