Jim--you and the other leaders have done an incredible job with setting up the venues--both films/locations and meals before/after.  All the rest of us have to do is RSVP and show up for a most enjoyable entertainment event, with other fascinating people.  We all owe you much gratitude for continuing this most time-consuming organizing.  I am sure everyone else that belongs to this Meet Up group would give you similar appreciations.  This is a great group!

Subject: [movies-320] Higher Ground - Wed. Sept. 21 - Cedar Lee - Ariyoshi

Hi everyone,
We had a good crowd at Sarah's Key last Sunday.  Nearly everyone liked it from what I heard.
I do get questions on how we pick the movies?  I enjoy researching films.  Personally, I usually select lesser known films that you might miss otherwise.  Some of my other organizers select films that may be more mainstream but still have some depth to them. I also keep my eye open on non-traditional venues to see films (library, universities, film festivals).  Of course, anyone in the group can organize a film.  Just let me know.
Location-wise, the Cedar Lee is our top location, followed by the Cinematheque, Art Musem and the Capitol.  Occasionally, we see films at Tower City (central / good restaurants), Valley View (central) and Shaker Square (good restaurants).
Some of the films we see (e.g. Sarah's Key) do pop up at conventional movie theaters but we often go to the Cedar Lee since Cleveland Cinemas is local and we want to support them bringing unique films to Cleveland.  Often, these national chains decide whether to show an art film based on how it did in a Kansas suburb for example.  I do appreciate that many of you have to travel a good way to see these films so we should try to include a showing more centralized from time to time. If you organize a film, you do have a say on where the film is shown.
What are your thoughts?
Upcoming films this week...
Louder than a Bomb - Art Museum. The movie is not too long so we will meet a La Dolce Vita afterward.  This Friday at 7.
The Help - Shaker Square.  Circa 4PM.  Check later this week to confirm the time.  Zanzibar soul fusion is a great restaurant that you should enjoy.  Thanks Renu for putting it together.
Finally, Higher Ground will be seen on Wed. Sept 21.  It is a movie where a religious woman begins to question her faith, but it is presented in an intelligent manner.  It stars Vera Farfinugen (spelling????), who I am beginning really to appreciate as an actress.
Finally, several months back, our group had some concerns about how we were being treated by Jimmys.  Well, perhaps they were well-founded since it appears to be closed.
For the time being, we will be heading across the street to Lopez.  They have been very accommodating.  (Note that your organizer may select a different place to meet afterward.)
See you at the movies.
