Meeting Description: The 32nd annual Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) will be taking place March 6-16. It is an incredible treat that we have a festival noted by Time magazine as one of the top ten in the world. http://clevelandfilm.org/

This Meetup is the 2nd of 3 events sponsored by CIMG.
*** We strongly suggest you buy your tickets ahead of time. You will be glad you did. ***

6:00 pm Meet beforehand in the Tower City Food Court to get a quick meal before the movie. There is plenty of establishments to choose from. Meet on the main level by the fountains, or look for the group. If you don't show up for a meal, meet us in line by 7:00 pm

7:15 MOVIE: Film probably won't go on standby, but if it does, you will probably still get in (but why deal with the hassle). Be at the entrance line with your tickets for ALICE'SHOUSE BY 7:00.

Afterwards, look for the group by the center of the Fountains on the side nearest to Tower Cinemas. If people are interested, we can go for coffee and discuss the film.

*** If you plan on joining us ahead of time, please tell us on your RSVP. We will keep an eye out for you. *** Even if you are not seeing the same movies, feel free to join us for dinner.

Alice?s House
Foreign Title: A Casa de Alice

BRAZIL

Directed by Chico Teixeira
Running time: 92 minutes

The people in Alice?s house live too close to each other for comfort, yet too far apart for understanding. Alice is a S?o Paulo manicurist who?s bored and frustrated with her life. Confined to living in a small space with her cab driver husband, her mother, and three adolescent sons, she?s desperately lonely. Her husband lusts after teenage girls; the boys steal, hustle, or watch TV; Grandma moves quietly through the cramped quarters, cooking, cleaning, and keeping a tidy home. Because she?s always there, Grandma is the one who sees all and knows everyone?s secrets? ironically, she is slowly going blind. All these characters come and go in an emotional void. Meals are eaten, people fight, the men tell Grandma how to wash their clothes, and Alice takes the bus to work. When an old flame of Alice?s shows up in her beauty salon, she seizes the opportunity. Director Chico Teixeira has been a documentarian until this film, and it shows in a remarkable way. A specialist at making ?small? films about ordinary people, he keeps the camera focused tightly on his characters, underlining the claustrophobia of their lives. (In Portuguese with English subtitles) ? BB

GETTING THERE: Parking is Free (with validation!), but it gets very crowded so allow plenty of time, especially on weekends. Consider taking RTA.

BUYING TICKETS: For most films, I recommend you buy tickets online ahead of time or at the festival. Some of the films sell out. Others go on standby, which means you will be admitted if there are seats available, but it requires more waiting. As a last resort, you could see another movie and meet us afterwards. http://clevelandfilm.org/ciff_tickets.php

OTHER MOVIES AT THE CIFF: I would encourage you to post other CIFF movies you may be attending so that others may be able to join you.

*************************************************
NOTE TO FIRST TIME GOERS: This group has been successful partly because members have a genuine interest in meeting fellow independent movie goers. We don't always know where to look for you, especially first timers, which is why I offer multiple meeting points:

* Entrance door to the movie in the theater hallway 5-10 minutes ahead of time
* Near the Marquee right after the movie
* A reserved table at a restaurant (usually) under the name "Movie Group"

We often don't sit together in the movie theater but if you see a bunch of people talking about good movies they have seen, it is probably us. Please join in. We are always happy to get new people involved.

NOTE TO ALL: In the world of Independent films, it is recommended that you check back a few days before the event to make sure the movie, restaurant, location or time has not changed.
