The holidays are upon us, but we keep scheduling the movies.
1. This Monday, December 15 is Slumdog Millionaire. If you don't know much about this film, yet, in a month or so, it may become one of the most talked about film of the year. Not bad for an indy that is partially spoken in Hindi. So, try to dragging a Hollywood film person or two to the Cedar Lee and open them up to seeing a film that is both entertaining and thought provoking. (I guess there is always Transporter 3). Be sure to indicate if you will be joining us for dinner.
2. Sunday after Christmas, Grand Illusion is often cited as Renoir's (son of the painter) greatest film. It was the first foreign language film to ever get nominated for an Academy Award for best picture. Because it was an Anti-war film, it has the distinction of being banned by both Hitler and Mussolini. It is a new print and is really worth a viewing.
3. Based on popular requests. Our first movie of the year will be Milk. We will be seeing it late afternoon on New Year's day. Look for more detail next week including our new fee structure.
I would like to welcome the following new members:
Elisa - yes, Elisa, it is about time you joined -:)
Shweta (She saw Slumdog and really liked it)
Katrina and Ken
Terese (never saw American Teenager - may have to check it out
We hope to see you at a movie soon. Also, stick around for the discussion. The movies are well worth it.
