Announcing a new event for Cleveland Independent Movie Goers!
What: The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters: Cedar Lee Theater / Brennan's Colony
When: Thursday, October 4, 6:00 PM
Movie admission: USD8.25 per person
Where: Click the link below to find out!The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quar?
Event Description: A first I thought that this was a joke. A movie about Donkey Kong? But as I started reading about the movie, the more I thought it might be interesting. The reviews have been quite complimentary.
6:00 EATS: We have been trying to eat at Brennan's Colony for most of the summer. Ask to be seated with the Movie Group if you don't see us when you walk in. Cash is preferred. It is a five minute walk to the theater.
7:30 MOVIE: Meet in the lobby by the entrance to the movie 5 minutes ahead of time or look for the group inside the theater or meet us afterwards under the marquis.
DISCUSSION: Afterwards, we will walk over to Jimmy O'Neill's for a light bite or beverage. As you are viewing the movie, think about how different Billy and Steve are; and how each one's personality drives his interest and competitiveness.
DESCRIPTION: Obsession and the pursuit of excellence push diehard gamers to break World Records on classic arcade games like Q*bert, Joust, Pac-Man, and Donkey Kong. The film follows a middle school science teacher as he battles a hot sauce mogul for the Guinness World Record on the arcade classic Donkey Kong.
REVIEW: " Gordon has made a most improbable film: a documentary -- about frigging Donkey Kong of all things -- that is as compelling and involving as the original Rocky.." http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/articles/15374
PARKING: Allow extra time for parking because a new parking deck is being built behind the theater. Look under the "Files" section for a map of available parking.
BONUS MOVIE: The Cleveland Natural History Museum is having an Environmental Film festival on Saturday Oct. 6 that you may be interested in attending. http://www.cmnh.org/site/ClassesandPrograms_SpecialEvents_Film.aspx
BONUS FESTIVAL: There are 4 different Ethnic film festivals showing in the next two months. You might want to check one or more of them out. http://www.cleveland.com/plaindealer/stories/index.ssf?/base/friday/1190451469132170.xml&coll=2

NOTE TO FIRST TIME GOERS: This group has been successful partly because members have a genuine interest in meeting fellow independent movie goers. We don't always know where to look for you, especially first timers, which is why I offer multiple meeting points (e.g. under the marquis, in the theater, reserved table at dinner). If you see a group of people talking about good movies they have seen, they are most likely a part of our group. Please join in. We are always happy to get new people involved. Feel free to send an email letting us know you are coming.
NOTE TO ALL: In the world of Independent films, it is recommended that you check back a few days before the event to make sure the movie, restaurant, location or time has not changed.
