For the fourth year in a row, CFI - Northeast Ohio is serving as a Community Partner with the Cleveland International Film Festival.

The film we're promoting this year is IN THE SHADOW OF THE SUN, a documentary about the plight of albinos in Tanzania, who face an ever-increasing murder rate due to the superstitions spread about them (that their skin and body parts can bring good luck, have magical properties, etc.) by witch doctors in the country.

There are three screenings of the film:

- Monday, April 8 @ 2:05 p.m.

- Tuesday, April 9 @ 6:25 p.m.

- Wednesday, April 10 @ 11:50 a.m.

I'm scheduling the meetup for Tuesday, since it's the only screening in the evening. It's a good idea to arrive at least a half hour before show time and get in line. People are let into the theater 15-20 minutes before the show, and any seats not taken at that time can be sold to those waiting on standby.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, March 22 @ 11 a.m. You can buy online at, by phone at [masked] or at Tower City Cinemas. Best to buy tickets in advance. And be sure and use our discount code "CFI" when ordering to get $2 off reg. price of $14. (The code will give you a discount on any and all festival tickets -- not just on our film.) It's also important to use the code as it tracks how many tickets CFI and its friends buy.

Maybe we can eat somewhere after the film (has run time of 85 min.). Please post any restaurant suggestions.

This is an excellent movie - very well done. I saw it today and the director (who hopefully sticks around) did a Q&A afterwards with some interesting comments on the main characters and making of the film. This documentary really made an impact on me, showing how crucial it really is to combat every sort of superstition with the facts. Thank you, CFI, for sponsoring!

Thanks Sharon & Ellen! Glad you could make it to one of these screenings. And I agree, film was very well done. I was struck especially by the scenes of Josephat talking to various communities and the reactions he received from the people in the crowds. Here's a link to the charity that the filmmakers set up if anyone's interested: http://standingvoice....

Forgot to use the discount code when I bought my ticket, damn. But I'm looking forward to this film, and the other one I plan to see (Brave Miss World). So many amazing films, wish I could see them all!

I hear ya. I usually get bogged down trying to see too many. Think I'm in for 14 this year. I won't actually be able to "meet up" before this film as I have to go in and man the CFI table. Also, I'm seeing a movie after this one, so won't be able to grab dinner (if anyone was thinking of doing so).

No problem, I wasn't planning on doing anything afterward either.

UPDATE: reg. ticket price is $14, not $12 as I had originally indicated. (Price will be $12 with our discount.) Sorry about the error. I've corrected price in info above.
