CFINO Presents: The State of Separation of Church & State in Ohio

Join us for Center for Inquiry Northeast Ohio's November Akron-Canton chapter meeting, which will feature two Ohio state legislators- Representative Mike Foley and Senator Michael Skindell! Together they will give us a rundown of "The State of Separation of Church and State" in Ohio.

Senator Michael Skindell (D-Lakewood) was elected to serve Lakewood, Cleveland and Ohio's 23rd Senate District in November, 2010. He comes from the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served four terms as the Representative for Ohio's 13th House District. After graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business and political science from Walsh College, Skindell earned his law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He represented the people of Lakewood as a Councilman at Large between 1998 and 2002.

Representative Mike Foley (D-Cleveland) of the 14th District was appointed to represent constituents in Brook Park, Parma Heights, and Cleveland Wards 19, 20 and 21 in May of 2006. Voters then formally elected him to continue his work at the Statehouse in November 2006 and in November 2008. Rep. Foley earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Dayton and his law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He has used that education to defend the rights of Ohioans, especially in the area of housing.

Don't miss this very special event- see you there! :)

I am thrilled that Rep. Foley and Sen. Skindell were willing to spend time speaking to a room full of mostly non-theists. They both seem like great guys- I hope one or the other might pop in at future events from time to time, they would be most welcome!

Quite informative! It was good to see a good turnout for this important topic! I feel more connected now and aware of what is going on in my state. Although the information was somewhat discouraging, these two representatives can give us hope in that they are trying hard to make people aware. Thank you!

I've had a terrible week. Cold or allergies & constant pain. Even with
RX & stimulator. I'll never handle the drive. I must bow out. ENJOY :)

You need to take yourself in hand and apply a lot of TLC. Get yourself all better. Colds stink all by themselves, much less in combination with other things.

Damn! I work that night! If I wasn't working I'd love to go. In honor of this, I just watched Penn and Teller's BullShit on You Tube on Abstinence. Jocelyn Elders, the former Surgeon General under Clinton was interviewed and she said a mouth full! That lady has 'balls' and heart. I'll have to hear about how it goes. I heard that 36 states have accepted Title V money to teach abstinence only education thru 2014. Nobody who cares about their children should send them out armed with.... no knowledge. I think this is a serious religious/state issue. Didn't mean to get too serious so just watch Penn and Teller if you get a chance.

As it turns out, I have to be at the airport the next morning for a 7:30 flight, so I am still hoping to make this, but I'll have to bug out of there probably right after :(

Again, it's just too far for me. Over an hour drive, even on turnpike.
    Sorry.

I'm saying maybe, for now. I'm very interested in this.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
