Secular Summit 2.0

Join your fellow freethinkers in helping to establish a collective secular voice with our state's public policymakers by taking part in Secular Summit 2.0, sponsored by Center for Inquiry Northeast Ohio (CFINO).

Secular Summit 2.0 will take place on Tuesday, January 28 at a reserved space in Ohio's Capitol building. We will be visiting with several speakers of note, including:

Edwina Rogers, Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America and the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Science and Reason

Michael Foley, Ohio State Representative (14th District)

Michael De Dora, Director of Center for Inquiry's Office of Public Policy and CFI's UN Representative

Jaime Miracle, representative from NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio

David Bowman of Springboro, OH who will fill us in on Springboro school district church/state issues

Then, as individuals or in small groups we will meet with the offices of our respective districts' State Senators and Representatives. Please call or email the offices of your district's Senator and Representative well ahead of time to ensure an appointment. Find contact info for your district's legislators HERE.

Or if you'd prefer, contact Monette Richards at [masked] or Mark Tiborsky at [masked] for assistance in scheduling your appointments (please use this option only if you plan on attending for sure).

CFI-NE Ohio is asking for a fee of $10 per attendee, which includes lunch (and coffee, etc.). Please use the following link to register:

A tour of the Ohio Statehouse is scheduled for 2pm Tuesday afternoon.

For those who plan on staying over Monday night 1/27 in Columbus: we suggest booking a room at the Holiday Inn Downtown Capitol Square, which is a few blocks from the Statehouse. Please call the hotel direct at [masked] for your reservation... be sure to request the "government rate", as we are visiting the Statehouse on behalf of Center for Inquiry. The rate will be $99 for either a king or 2 doubles, for a limited time only (so be sure to book soon).

See You there! :)

It was a very good day! Twice as many met with their legislative offices this year compared to last, with generally positive experiences reported thus far. The speakers were all interesting and very helpful and the entire event was well-timed. Thank you Monette for putting all sorts of work into making this happen. Let's double the attendance yet again for next time!

The restaurant at Holiday Inn Capitol Square, Town Street Bar & Grill, is open 'til 10pm tonight. Since Marni & I probably won't arrive any earlier than 8pm, I think we're going to grab a bite there. Can't seem to find a menu online, though. My cell # is[masked]

Looks like we're getting in around 9. We hope anyone who meets for dinner has fun!

Parking for Tuesday: the best option would be the Statehouse parking garage, but there is always a chance that it will be full:

Hey All, this will be my first event with you and I am looking forward to meeting many of you after reading so many emails. I will plan to go down on Monday evening. How many are staying at the Holiday Inn?

Sorry I won't make it this time, but if someone sends me the agenda or what issues we are currently focusing on, I'd be happy to write to my representatives anyway.
