Time to Learn Geologic Time: How Scientists Know the Ages of Rocks and Fossils

This meetup will be presented by our own Randy Pelton. Randy has taught Science for twenty years. For twelve of those years he taught Earth Science. A subject he will return to teaching this year. He also has an undergraduate degree in Geology.

Those of you who know Randy know that this will be an exciting presentation. Those who do not will soon be a fan.

This meetup will take place in room 1 in the library.

Randy Pelton is a very knowledgeable guy. He certainly shows a very all encompassing understanding of a complicated subject. He did a good job of presenting the material. But I'm glad I won't be tested on it. And the dinner after was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the company. Mark does a good job of finding good places to eat.

What a great joy it was to hear Randy speak. This meetup was everything I hoped it would be and more. I now have a much better grasp on how we know the age of rocks and fossils.Thank you, Randy, for your presentation.

I have wanted to take a geology class for sometime, just don't know where (I haven't researched it), and I thought the meetup was excellent. Randy's presentation was fascinating.

Sittoo's is a bit over 2 miles from MHL. Right turn out of the library onto Libby Rd. (which turns into Granger Rd.), then a right turn onto Turney. Address is 5126 Turney Rd. Garfield Hts. I called & the gentleman said they are open til 9, and can accommodate a rush of us but we should call ahead with a # if we are coming.

The inevitable question- would anyone attending this like to grab a bite to eat afterwards :) There is nothing really close to the library, but the following place is intriguing and it's not all that far- on Turney Rd. in Garfield: http://www.mysittoos.com/

I'm reminded of a line from "Inherit the Wind" where Matthew Brady says "I am more interested in the Rock of Ages than in the age of rocks."
