I was listening to yahoo radio and it randomly selected a song from the new album of young Swedish singer songwriter Jose Gonzalez. I liked the song, and so I went to his website to check him out only to find this in his bio:
"- I didn't want to write about love but find other, though equally universal themes for the songs. These are things I have always been thinking about. But the last six months I became a lot more interested in it after I read the book The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. He's an evolutionary biologist. But the lyrics are far from biological, I'd like to point that out. It's mainly the theme that interests me, Jos? Gonz?lez says."
Most of the lyrics are very subtle in meaning... the song "Abram" is the most obvious:
Abram either wake up or go to bed.
You're sleepwalking with a delirious head.
You were programmed a long, long, long time ago
Your stories are old, old and your acclimation is slow.
Not much of what you say makes any sense.
Cook up some myths, then ask for obedience.
Even though you men well, well most of the time,
you've aided delusion and created bias in our minds.
Go to sleep.
Check out his website if you like. There's some videos for some of the songs that definitely have some subtle anti-religious overtones as well
It's encouraging that I can randomly just stumble upon something like this...
As human beings, living in this so-called free and secular nation, we have the ability and the right to question, examine and dissect all things religious, all things political, all things philosophical, all things cultural, even all things scientific.
Any attempts to silence freethought will only make us think louder!
