Anytime one points out to delusional people that their beliefs are in fact delusional, the only defense they can mount is to attack the person doing the pointing out.
 
Nobody wants to be seen as a fool. Worse, nobody wants to have to face one's own foolishness.  Admitting that you have been scammed and made a fool is tough business! This is one reason perhaps for the longevity of religious delusions!
