That's cool that they offer that option right off the bat!
I served as a juror only once, back in the late '80s on an attempted auto theft case. In the days prior I had been selected for 2 drug cases, but was tossed out because they knew I was a musician on the side. I just remember not minding being off work for awhile :)
I'm going to be serving as an alternate juror for a murder trial starting today. I was very happy when the judge gave us the option of swearing in under God or under penalty of law. It may be several weeks long but at least it will be interesting.
