Sorry for taking this long Tim,   and thanks so much for your reassurance that I can vote/ not vote as I please and I particularly appreciate your thoroughly thought out judgment of my political stance.   But please tell me  how you think I’m wrong.    If I add my vote to all the others given to one of the big party candidates,  how will it make a modicum of difference if the vote count is not at a tie otherwise.   If I don’t vote,  how will anyone know it was because i don’t want either of the candidates to be elected?   If I don’t vote,  who will know I really would rather have the Libertarian win?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        As an answer to Ellen -   you think that voting for Obama doesn’t mean you are supporting everything he does?    Hmmm,   yes that point can be a little murky I  realize.   But if you vote for the candidate that wins it would certainly mean you are equally responsible for everything he does in office, as everyone else who voted for him.    I actually have avoided loads of guilt through my whole voting life,  by almost never voting for anybody that got elected.    At the risk of being boring here,  I want to again try making sure  everyone understands what our current president has done,  instead of diving right over it at the full speed limit like a dead squirrel in the middle of the road.   Please do some research on this and find the proof if you think I’m wrong,  that Obama actively worked to have the provisions in the 2011 NDAA which would give him the power to indefinitely detain literally anyone he’d choose to call a terrorist –  after which he signed the bill.   (NO ruler of a free country has been allowed to do that since the signing of the Magna Carte remember)    Then there’s  additionally this Kill List  thing.   Do you like living in a country where it’s supposedly legal for one person to order anyone of his choosing to be killed -  and oh,  by the way,  if any innocent bystanders happen to get maimed or killed  by accident that will be legal too.   This isn’t something that some radicals are worried about possibly happening in the future.   This is the reality here and now!   I don’t want to get used to it.    Do you?      Maybe you have some irrational level of trust for this President.   Maybe you are absolutely sure he would never misuse this great power.    If so  .....  what about the next Prez that all your worst enemies might vote for and get elected.  Will you be happy with letting him or her have that power?    Do you want to share the guilt by voting for this?     Actually some people who seem rather intelligent,  say it’s  better to just not vote.    But if there aren’t  many thousands of us  at the polls shouting to the world about why we’re not voting,   not voting will have less than no affect.    I just wonder -   is there no one else in this group who thinks about any of this stuff?   Is everyone so caught in the this-party-is-good-that-party-is-bad  mentality that none of this matters to you?    We call this the Free Thinkers group.   but is anyone really thinking anything besides what we are supposed to think at all?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Ok,   start throwing the snowballs back now.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Rus

You have every right to vote as you please. I personally think that your stance is Quixotic and short-sighted, but again it is your right to vote for an independent or not vote at all.  Your right not to vote is as important as your right to vote.

I have no presumptions at all about Romney obeying the Constitution any better than the present Prez if he gets elected.    I only know that I won’t be guilty of the election of either of them.    Kind of embarassing  to say,  it wasn’t until just a few weeks ago that I had the minor satori of realizing  that my single vote really doesn’t matter  if voting for one of the major party candidates unless the vote count would have been an absolute tie otherwize.      It’s a simple math thing really -   just try thinking about it a little.    And that thought clarified for me that a vote for any third party candidate  actually matters  every time (so very contrary to what the establishment tries to make us think).    With every vote that an alternative candidate gets,  both of the big parties tend (or pretend)  to get more like that other candidate’s philosophies in order to attract those wayward voters acceptance in the future.  I would have been voting for all the libertarian and/or independent candidates anyway,  but  coming to understand this now makes me more sure that it’s the best thing to do.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    As quite a related issue,  I wonder how many people understand just how controlled/ corrupted/  (lots of negative adjectives would apply actually)  the whole Presidential “Debate” show is.    and I urge everyone to do a little research of their own to find out.    But so luckily there have been some much more real and honest Presidential debates, still with more skeduled.    Even if you are sure you’ll be voting for one of the big party candidates,   these more legitimate debates would be interesting so that you can see how they are different (all the lower tech/ non Hollywood professional theatrics considered).    These links should work to see the recordings:  http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/ThirdPartyPresid.    and this earlier debate might be worth a watch also:    http://ivn.us/ca-election-center/2012/10/17/gary-johnson-and-jill-stein-debate-tomorrow-on-google-hangout/.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Rus

I guess there’s a presumption that Romney wouldn’t?

Supporting/voting for Obama doesn't necessarily mean supporting everything he's done or is planning to do. I'm opposed to all signature drone strikes but I still want Obama to beat out Romney.
