Re: [humanism-174] O'Reilly vs. Silverman

O'Relly's "points" are of course ridiculous, except for "One doesn't have to be a Christian to celebrate Christmas"... this is true. Silverman did well but I prefer the "Christmas has long been celebrated as a traditional holiday, not a religious one- and for many, Christ has no more significance than a plastic elf or a piece of tinsel" angle.

But this angle might diminish the overall secularist argument (pro-religionists might say "If the religious messages are insignificant, then what is the harm?"), although it shouldn't- religious displays on public property, or any other govt.-coerced acknowledgement of religion, are equivalent to government establishment of religion, simple as that.

American Atheists president David Silverman & Bill O'Reilly got into a pretty good "scrotum-popper" on O'Reilly's show last night :)
