Re: [humanism-174] Uncle Tom Atheists

Boy- that timecube guy is a true knucklehead!
Here's another "fringie" that you might enjoy:

As for the "Tom-isms"- at 1st glance I was afraid I was, at times, guilty of this:
"You Apologize for "Bad Atheists" Making Religious Believers Uncomfortable"

On reflection, though, I haven't ever apologized for other Atheists' uncivil behavior, nor have I painted any as "bad" (except Stalin, Mao, etc., but that's a whole different story).
Instead, I may have pointed out (to a Theist or two) some atheist behavior that's been a bit overzealous (like the "twin towers" holiday display last Xmas) or childish (the LCC gay-christ display earlier this year).

Ok, so we know that most of anything arent the fanatic fringe--- but there are those who give everyone a bad name

OK Like I said before I have a sick and twisted sense of humor...I kind of enjoy seeing how fanatical and weird the fringe can be....but that guy is whacked--  of course he is offering ten grand to anyone who can disprove his theory--we should try to take his money.

Some very good points are raised. I keep noticing how many folks, including some freethinkers claim that Dawkins and other outspoken atheists are arrogant. I think theists who insist that they are certain some sort of supreme being exist, but that they know how this "god" thinks, how "he" wants his will to be manisfested on earth, and most of them believe that "god's word" is not only a basis for legislating morality here on earth, but that nonbelievers and sinners will suffer an eternal torment in hell. THAT is arrogance personified. I noticed this a few days ago when i was reading that story that Ginger posted about that boardgame that lampoons various deities. The man who created the game claimed that atheists "are fanatics, just as much as fanatical as religous fundamentalists". What utter nonsense!

Uncle Tom Atheists Exchange Liberty for Crumbs of Privilege
Are you truly committed to equality, liberty, and liberation for all atheists or are you more of an "Uncle Tom" atheist? Would you turn your back on working for real equality in exchange for a few scraps from the tables of religious theists so you can pretend you're being treated as an equal? Would you support increased privileges for Christians in the hope that a few of those privileges might drip down to benefit you personally? You might, and without even realizing it.
So, You Might be an Uncle Tom Atheist if...
