Did I miss something here? Who said it was not primarily the role of the parent to teach their children about Santa and God? But note that primarily doesn't mean exclusively. Furthermore, a parent may choose to deceive their child. But I will not be a party to that deception if asked. If a child asks a question about Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, God or any fictional character I am going to answer it truthfully. If a child makes some comment that does not comport with reality I am not going to feed the deception or delusion by giving it a pass or saying anything that will perpetuate the parent's deceit.

Now the above attitude probably paints me as a Grinch among many people. But I have no ethical obligation to be complicit in anyone's deception. If the above bothers anyone then take my advise and monitor your child so that they don't ask me questions about any of these topics. I hold this attitude because I do not agree with the underlying premise held by some in this discussion that these deceptions are harmless.
