In the early 90s, i had a job at an Akron based grocery chain where the Salvation Army bellringers were a fixture. I used to contribute some spare change and spare dollars to them, but a few years ago or so, i found out that they were antigay, so i quit giving to them. I'm glad that you mentioned that the United Way discriminates against gays and atheists. For at least one year in the early 90s, while i was working at said grocery store job, we were asked if we would donate a percentage of our weekly paycheck to the United Way. I agreed to give them a fairly generous contribution. Shortly thereafter, my father who is a social conservative/Christian said that he was approached to do the same thing through his workplace, and he was considering doing so. This all changed when he found out that they funded planned parenthood, which is a leading provider of abortions, or at least abortion referrals. Looks like they have something to offend everyone.

Just wondering what people's opinions are on contributing to the many religious charities seeking donations this holiday season. For example, do you give to the Salvation Army?

What about United Way which in most localities funds the Boy Scouts who discriminate against gays and atheists?
