Re: [humanism-174] negative Atheist press

In the current media environment, it often seems it doesn't matter who reads a book, as more people end up hearing the books message via the various talk show/news shop stops promoting it. Sometimes wonder if some schlocky authors dont expect any real readers, just want related pundit gigs.

I think the volunteer activity being planned is a great start. Unfortunately, I can't participate because I have other plans for the 12th, but if we continue to do such activities and wear our atheism on our sleeves doing so, it could make a difference. Of course, we can make a difference with the people who directly touch our lives.  For the others, perhaps we can set aside atheist attention days. Design ourselves some t-shirts that have labels: "Mom, wife, content developer, blood donor, volunteer...ATHEIST" and wear those out on these days with a goal of shaking a stranger's hand and talking with them about these perceptions. Or, we hand out some cards or something.

You guys all have good points. I would like to see some positive Atheist representation out there though.I know we're good and intelligent people. But this is the kind of shit that gets passed around the world about us. And all is fair in the market place of ideas. But like I said, I would like to see some of our real ideas out there.

Eh. It doesn't bother me because it's a demonstration of ignorance that I've seen a bit too much. If it's an Internet video, I just roll my eyes and move on. If someone in real life presents something like this to me, I'll challenge them to prove any of those points about real-life atheists.  All we can do is be the best humans we can and try to change this ignorant perception. I'm excited to see what we can do with the NEOFS.  Chin up and smile. :) An atheist thinks your cool.
