Re: [humanism-174] Atheist deconversion?

Joanna,

People have done more than this for sex.  Beliefs about the nature of reality and other sorts of conceptual thinking are less real and less important than real life experiences.  We live in the moment.  We live in our minds.  What mode of living takes precedence is the issue.  Would I waver in my beliefs for a hot encounter with a willing partner?  Of course I would.  Perhaps some true believers wouldn't.  A Christian apostate risks eternal damnation by trading his religion for sex. On the other hand, my loss may diminish my standing among many atheists who don't like me anyway.  A no brainer!

Best,

Mike S

These types of stories are always similar in that they're not very compelling. But this might be of interest to those of us who have shed (or are in the process of shedding) a religion, in a sort of polar-reverse way :)
