Mr Lean Displays his bias against atheism in general and the so-called "New Atheists" in particular in his first paragraph.

"Richard Dawkins, the preppy septuagenarian and professional atheist whose work in the field of evolutionary biology informs his godless worldview, has always been a prickly fellow. The British scientist and former Oxford University professor has expended considerable ink and precious breath rationalizing away the possibility of cosmic forces and explaining in scientific terms why those who believe in a divine creator are, well, stupid.

It appears, however, that some of those believers are stupider than others. At least according to a recent series of tweets by Dawkins, who served up a hostile helping of snark this week aimed at followers of the Muslim faith. It’s a group that has come to occupy a special place in his line of fire — and in the minds of a growing club of no-God naysayers who have fast rebranded atheism into a popular, cerebral and more bellicose version of its former self."

I certainly agree that some believers are stupider than others.  While many believer are very intelligent, but are simply guilty of using mental judo in trying to accommodate both their religious beliefs and their knowledge of reality, there are some who are genuinely stupid, and there are belief systems that are not so much stupid as downright evil.

Christianity has a wretched history, but at least in modern times has tried to at least appear to be following the alleged ideals of its nominal founder (this point could be argued against, but I won't go further on that here!).  Islam in its extreme forms and even to a large degree in its moderate forms has made little pretense of its propensity for violence and intolerance in the name of its nominal founder.  Where Islam exists next to people of other faiths, there is almost always faith-based conflict.  Muslims co-exist peacefully with members of other religions ONLY when they have to, when their numbers are such that to not coexist would be suicidal (not that they aren't often suicidal as well.

And btw, atheists are only more vocal these days because the religious loons are no longer allowed to kill us!

Nathan Lean really digs into the New Atheists but  offers absolutely nothing to rebut the legitimate criticisms  leveled by them against fundamentalist Islam.  Perhaps he finds 9/11, the oppression of women, the persecution of atheists and the general worldview offered by Sharia law to be just fine with him. He should clarify position on this topic in a follow up article.  Until  that time he is just a theist with a chip on his shoulder with nothing substantial to bring to the debate.

Once again the so-called "new atheists" are being accused of being 'Islamophobic'-

Then again, I'm not sure we can blame them if they are-
