I would argue that there were indeed supernatural components to Stalinism most notably that of Lysenkoism. And if you use your definition of religion then clearly the state ideology of North Korea is undeniably a religion.

This is why I do not accept the claim that atheism is a religion. Of

To call atheism or stalinism or any ism that does not include a
supernatural component a religion is (imo) to stretch the definition of religion
a tad too far! I personally do not consider atheism to be a religion. I do
resist efforts to invent atheist churches etc.
Besides, good rule of thumb: no funny hats, it's not a religion! lol
