I see what he is getting at, but I disagree.  Atheism is NOT a religion. Disbelief in God or gods does NOT automatically lead to ANY specific philosophy or ideology.  Both Richard Dawkins and Joseph Stalin share a disbelief in God, but that is pretty much all that the two men share!
Freethinker meetups and picnics etc make perfect sense; atheist churches do not! 
But this IS America.  We are ALL allowed to do a lot of silly things!
