They make it so easy too!

"They want the government to spend more money on science, and, let me tell you, that is the last thing the science committee is going to do."

Well said, Sam!

I'm happy that there is some diversity of opinion here, as I'm not interested in being part of a "hive mind". Nor am I interested in any group that expects everyone to "toe a line", except for the "lines" of keeping discourse civil and keeping arguments as well-reasoned as possible.

That being said, with regards to Glen's complaint I see the jabs at Republican politicians as inevitable and necessary. Whether it be from hardcore atheism or simply religious doubt, the common threads in this group are issues related to non-theism; and the modern Republican Party has been absolutely abominable on these issues!

We only need to go back a week or so to show what today's GOP thinks of non-theists. On the issue of Humanist chaplains, the entire House GOP voted unanimously in disfavor of them (joined by 44 Democrats, unfortunately). Not one single Republican in the U.S. House was willing to grant nonreligious members of the military the same access to a person who could help look after their well-being, morale, and offer moral support, as religious members of the military have. Meanwhile, 150 Democrats (77% of House Dems) voted in favor of the Humanist chaplains or counselors or whatever they could be called.

How can I NOT fling poo at the Republican Party for this? :)

I think the real truth is if we sat down and discussed the reasons we
have the type of worldview we have, we would find that we have a lot
more in common than we think. For instance when Repubs say everyone
should earn their own way through life. Well of course we agree that
people who are able bodied should earn their own way. However there
are a lot of people who actually need welfare. And I'm pretty sure
Repubs would agree that those would need financial help should get it.
