Re: [humanism-174] Holy Bratwurst

Hi Hayley, they are listed there in the lower tier of sponsors- I would think that it would have to be some sort of monetary support. It could be something as simple as the renting of display table space at the Christ-FEST. But even that would be a no-no for a government entity!

I would be very curious to know exactly what the Metroparks were 'sponsoring'. Reviewing their website, it appears that most of the employees would be Ohio government workers, despite the 'governer commisioners' as defined below. I work for a government agency and we are prohibited from using our appropriated funding on anything that does not directly promote our mission. I would assume the same for the state government...?
And, the music gave me a headache.

A yearly festival of Jesus-ness, called "The FEST", will be held once again in Lake County (Wickliffe) next Sunday Aug. 5. The Christ-soaked event is becoming increasingly popular; last year's attendance was around 35,000.

Marni and I had noticed ads for the FEST plastered all over Marc's in Willoughby Hills. It turns out that Marc's is one of the main sponsors along with Medical Mutual; second-tier sponsors include Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The list of corporate sponsors is distressingly impressive- Johnsonville Brats will suposedly have "the world's largest grill" there, and many other well-known corporate names are sponsors. All "kosher", I guess... the event is on private (religious institution) property, and it's all private entities doing he sponsoring...

EXCEPT... I happened to notice that Cleveland Metroparks is listed as a sponsor.

From the Cleveland Metroparks website:

Cleveland Metroparks is a separate political subdivision of the state of Ohio. The Park District is governed by Cleveland Metroparks Board of Park Commissioners, composed of three citizens who serve three-year terms without compensation. Board members are appointed by the presiding Judge of the Probate Court of Cuyahoga County.

What business does a government entity have in sponsoring/helping to promote an event that has, as its explicit purpose, the promotion of Christianity? At least a letter to the Metroparks commissioners is probably in order here.

Anyway, here is the FEST website- annoying Xtian music automatically plays when you open the page.

Can't find direct contacts for the Commissioners yet, just this general contact email:
