RE: [humanism-174] touchy question

I’m glad you like the idea, Michael!

Perhaps our synopses shouldn’t be directly replied to or commented on at all, I don’t know… after all, I’ve essentially just asked everyone to justify their innermost beliefs on the very nature of our existence, and on the nature of the universe itself. Heavy & personal stuff! We’ll see what others have to say.

I like the idea.  I think we would all benefit from such a exposition.

We could plan to be online at the same time, saving our synopsis for Friday.  Plus, a week will give us enough time to chew over our beliefs.  It will be interesting to see where everyone is coming from.

Todd,

I have a touchy question for you. Your answer may be very personal, so if that’s the case, you needn’t answer it at all.

It’s actually a two-point question. So here I go:

WHY are you a Christian, and WHY do you accept Creationism and ID? I only ask this to have a better understanding.

It occurred to me that I could probably give the group a concise one or two paragraph answer to the question, “WHY are you a non-believer, and WHY do you accept evolution & accepted scientific theories that describe the known universe?” But I do realize that for a person of faith, answering a question like the one I posed may be very difficult. Actually, now that I think about it, it might not be so easy for me either… It’s simple to trumpet WHAT you believe, but maybe not so simple to give solid reasons WHY you believe what you believe…

Wait, stop. Maybe we should all do this… I propose a little scheme. Each of the Cleveland Freethinkers who wants to participate should write a concise synopsis of WHY they believe what they believe, concerning religion. All the Emails should be titled “WHY I am… or WHY I believe…, so we can all put them in a separate folder and NOT read them and NOT comment on them until they’re all sent, maybe by next Friday? That way, no one will influence anyone else, and no one will get a barrage of comments, at least not right away.

I don’t know, maybe this is silly… or it may be very interesting. Anyhow… if anyone wants to participate, get ‘em out by Friday.
