Hail the voice of wisdom!!! Yes! Yes! Yes!

By the way, Marni has set up a blog… it’s not quite ready yet. When it is, you guys can debate Economics & whatnot for all eternity, for all the world to see! Details are forthcoming…

For crying out loud!!!!! I have an idea. First of all, I don't think anyone needs to be telling anyone to leave, etc., etc., etc.

How about this: if a couple individuals or a group subset want to get into a heated debate about one particular topic or a nuance of a topic and it appears that others are not interested or joining in or getting irritated, just take the debate to private email and don't post every comment over the group list.

That way, people like me, who are woefully unprepared to discuss say, economics, don't have to read through it all and, if someone is being arrogant or insulting or whatever, they can do it between the two or three of them and the rest of us don't have to feel compelled to comment on anyone's personality disorder du jour or intellectual shortcomings or whatever.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group can continue to figure out our purpose, tshirts, etc. I'm not saying no one should ever debate on here or post a topic for discussion-certainly everyone should but when just a couple people are involved in an extended argument on a topic that the rest of us may not be interested in or prepared to debate-it might be better taken private

What do you think?

Someday perhaps we will get our own website where we can have forums and each topic of debate can be clearly listed and those who want to join in on any particular one can do so or people can ignore the ones they want to ignore. But right now we don't have such a luxury and I think we all have to be sensitive to the fact that EVERYONE, including new members just trying our group out, is reading EVERYTHING posted. We don't want to give new folks the idea that if they come to our next meetup they will be met with this kind of insult-winging discussion. Do we?????
