RE: [humanism-174] ?

Good one, Sylvie!

‘In God We Trust’ has no real meaning for me, it’s just words… yet, had I been a thinking adult at the time that phrase was “coined”, I believe I would have vehemently opposed its use on Constitutional grounds. The same would apply to ‘one nation, under God’- although I always thought the Pledge of Allegiance was kind of creepy in itself!

Below is an interesting link:

I refer back to a Thomas Jefferson quote that partially explains WHY I feel that many public religious displays are meaningless:

To talk of immaterial existences is to talk of nothings. To say that the human soul, angels, god, are immaterial, is to say they are nothings, or that there is no god, no angels, no soul. I cannot reason otherwise ... without plunging into the fathomless abyss of dreams and phantasms.

Peace is VERY pleasant.  Religious displays on public property? Not particularly happy with it, but I try not to let it bother me.    What do you all think of ,*In God We Trust*, on our currency?

I have a question for you to ponder, something I briefly brought up at the July meetup. Hopefully, this question will bring some differing viewpoints, but not spawn Armageddon….

The question is….. Religious displays on public property- meaningless or menace?????
