I agree on all points- except I must point out that while many Liberal Christians take the position you specified, there are probably many more whose views are in accord with those of the Freethinkers. They understand us atheists, etc. and their positions on separation of church & state, evolution/creationism,eradicating warrantless prejudice, etc. pretty much match ours.
One blog that I follow shows the attitude well... in fact, the latest post highlights the differences between the 2 camps.
Sometimes, showing respect for a person means pointing out the absurdity of their ideas. I can't bring myself to respect beliefs in virgin births, resurrections, direct channels to deities, heavenly lairs, etc., but I can try to show tolerance & understanding to the people that hold those beliefs. Is that a thin line?

Liberal Christians and mealy mouthed fence sitters say that "New" Atheists really ought to respect others belief. First of all, the only thing new about them/us is our willingness to oh I don't know not let people get away with irrational ramblings. Why do people act like their beliefs are a commodity to be given or taken away? That's plain dumb. How is it respectful to not calling someone out for saying out loud that a Jewish zombie God walked on water, made wine at a party, is the son of God but IS God too? Does respect mean sitting in silence while the other twits nod their heads sagely as if Socrates were speaking? New Atheists is a myth, it's just old atheists who got tired of faith heads shit. That's like calling gays New Gays hey maybe we should call Martin Luther King jr. a New Black! At any rate, to quote Sam Harris (FSM bless 'em) "We do not other respect peoples beliefs, we evaluate their reasons." If I said that Poseidon caused that Tsunami in Asian a few years ago because the people didn't him, would my beliefs be respected? Of course not and one should not expect anyone too because that's bat shit insane. Respect does not equal not challenging what ludicrous statements emit from the gaping wound you call your mouth. Okay, go. Lol
