As part of a comparative religions course I'm all for it. When it's proposed this way Christians always balk.

I have nothing against teaching the contents of the bible in public schools---in the proper classes---as electives---and not in a preaching manner.
This pretty much violates all of that. He wants it to become required (and in OK, it just may be) it's taught in a way to make disciples, and it still offers an unscientific argument with the intention of convincing rather than discussing the debate at hand.
I think it's good for all Americans to be familiar with the bible since they are going to have to deal with it whether they like it or not. Coded issues slip right by them. I recently wrote an analysis of some Puritan writing. On the surface, it didn't seem all that bad but actually nice and noble. But to me and to others who are bible literate, there were all kinds of screaming words and messages. So I picked it apart and put those words into the context which was meant to be understood. It was a brutal piece of writing. My professor told me she had no idea. I quoted the scriptures that it would reference, then I would tell about the context, and how it was being applied.
In other words---
Kill the Indians. Take the land. Keep those that have different beliefs off the land. Our success in this will prove that God is blessing us---so in circular fashion--we must continue killing Indians, taking land, and keeping others off of it. It's our shining City on the Hil.
And be nice to each other---that doesn't include strangers.
