Eta Carinae

This is cool! Apparently there is a remote chance that we will be annihilated by this object sometime in the not-too-distant future!
 
 
 
 
This is a Hubble Space Telescope image of Eta Carinae, one of the most massive stars known. Eta Carinae is located approximately 7,500 light-years from Earth. The two immense lobes of dust & gas are believed to be a result of a "false supernova" which was observed from Earth in 1843 (so I guess the real event happened around 5660 B.C.?).
 
What's interesting is that astrophysicists believe that Eta Carinae is about to go HYPERNOVA! Actually, this might have already happened- we just haven't seen it yet! By the time the light from the hypernova reaches us, so would the deadly GAMMA RAYS!!!
