Re: [humanism-174] Does Maher deserve the AAI Dawkins award?

I have winced at some things he has said in regard to medicine. I think some of this has to do with his aversion to the health care industry. He has a point to some degree about scientifically validated medicines as Im finding out. I was given amiodarone for my heart and the amiodarone affected my thyroid so they put me on methimazole which has made me a zombie and is causing other problems. These are officially sanctioned meds which are routinely prescribed. Im have also been shocked at how little "testing" goes on before drugs are approved for use by people. We are essentially lab rats if you consider the short time periods and limited testing that goes on in trials. There is money to be made! My grandmother had a bad heart and took an aspirin once a day and lived to be ninety. It does give one pause! Whats wrong with PETA? I want some militancy in defending animals! As for awards they are bullshit anyway............Randall

Click each of the links for an in- depth look into Maher's anti-scientific views.? These facts about Maher do not meet the criteria "advocates increased scientific knowledge".? If they were to eliminate that from the criteria then I would have no problem with him receiving the award.?
