Global Game Jam 2013

The Cleveland Game Devs Meetup group will be holding a Global Game Jam (GGJ) event from 5:00 PM EST on Friday, January 25th 2013 through 5:00 PMEST Sunday, January 27th 2013. Game Jams are a unique experience where artists, coders, designers and musicians collaborate to build games over a weekend based on a specific theme. For this event and with our sponsor Handelabra Studios'(home of theGAME.minder app) and CGD member Sean O'Rourke's help, we will provide snacks and beverages all weekend long as well as a pizza dinner on Friday night. We also working on having a variety of food brought in for Saturday dinner as well. GGJ Keynotes and theme announcement will start at 6:00 PM Friday night. Final game demos and post-mortems will start at 3:00 PM Sunday.

TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE HERE

For this Game Jam, we will be participating in the 4th Annual Global Game Jam. The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games. Although the event is heavily focused on programming, there are many other areas where people who don’t code can contribute to a game.

We will be holding the event at the Shaker|LaunchHouse startup incubator. LaunchHouse (http://launchhouse.com) is a lean new public-private partnership that fosters entrepreneurial success and job creation through seed capital, education and innovation. This Northeast Ohio organization connects new entrepreneurs with proven business leaders in a grassroots, for-profit model that can be successfully replicated nationwide. This is an exciting and unique space that will give our group plenty of room to work. Please note that we will only be using the LaunchHouse space during the hours specified below. We will not be able to provide sleeping locations or overnight access to the facility.

It is recommended that people interested in working within a team form it in advance. Participants will need to bring their own laptops or desktops and whatever software or technology they need for creating games. Wifi Internet access will be available. Participants also have the option to build “paper prototype” games using whatever supplies they wish to bring.

Does anyone have a scaleTo behavior plugin for Construct 2? I'm looking for a quick and easy way to scale sprites with button presses.

      From Jarryd...
Jarryd Huntley I saw that too but I'd rather reply here 0:). I'm not at home now but basically you'll want use lerping. This tutorial goes over lerping as it applies to moving, but the concept can be applied to scaling just as well: http://www.scirra.com... . Changing the values passed to the lerp function is how you control the speed, etc. Once I get home I can throw together an example if needed. Let me know.

Remember if anyone needs art or animation in either 2D or 3D please email me your specs at [masked]. Even if your not sure what your final art assets will be, I can make place holder assets and modify them later. Please try to send me something by noon tomorrow, if you can send me stuff tonight that will be awesome. If I have a bunch of people wanting art Sunday, the quality won't be that great because of the limited time I will have left to get it done.

Emailing me sketches of your interface, characters, levels, etc will help as well. Just taking a pic with your phone and emailing it works fine.

I've been receiving emails asking if its okay for guests to stop in for the jam. Due to limited space and liability concerns, we cannot allow guests in to the event. Only registered jammers that have purchased a ticket will be permitted into the site.

"Keynotes and Theme Announcement start at 6:00 PM Friday"
Is this correct, or is the Theme Announcement at 5pm?

    January 18, 2013

    • Matt Perrin

We're going to open the doors at 5 PM and start getting everyone registered at that time. We'll start the keynotes at 6 PM which should only run 10 - 20 minutes this year (last year's were a painful 40 minutes). By 6:30 we should have theme announcement done and dinner ready.

The Global Game Jam promotional offers were just announced. We'll have codes to giveaway for these offers at the event. I would recommend signing up for the Mixamo promotion's website in advance of the event. http://globalgamejam.org/promot...

Unfortunately, due to liability concerns we have to limit the event to just ticketholders. We may be able to offer discounted tickets closer to the event though.
