The Cleveland Game Devs group is kicking off 2013 with two game jam events! Before we outline those events, I want to mention a change to how we are going to run game jams. A major goal of Global Game Jam is to foster a collaborative community and we want to work harder on that. After the theme is announced, we want to encourage attendees to think the theme over, to discuss it with each other and brainstorm ideas. After an hour or so, we are going to open the floor to attendees to make project pitches to everyone. Once all of the pitches have been made, attendees can put their name down to join a particular project if they wish or they can work within their own teams. It's all about breaking down walls, getting people to work together and making a game that's bigger and better than they could have done alone. :)
With that out of the way, on to the events! On Saturday, January 12th at 5:00 PM we will be hosting an "Introduction to Game Jams" workshop at the Shaker LaunchHouse. At this event, we'll be presenting a series of lightning talks related to rapid game development and game jamming. We'll also be holding open discussions, Q&A and if time permits, a paper game prototyping session. Click this link to learn more:
And then on Friday, January 25th at 5:00 PM we'll be kicking off our annual Global Game Jam event all weekend long. Shaker LaunchHouse has kindly allowed us to use their space for this three day game jam event. We'll be bringing in snacks and drinks for the weekend and hopefully a dinner or two as well. These events are a lot of fun and it's always fascinating to see how projects come together. To learn more about the Global Game Jam event or to purchase tickets, just follow the links below.
If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please let me know! And I hope to see everyone at one of our events this year. Take care!
