My friend Jeff is hosting his third annual "minicon" at his house. He has a number of friends showing up, but also wants to open it up to the general community. Expect 3-5 tables' worth of gaming, with some RPGs mixed in with the board games. (Sometimes he's had additional events such as movie marathons.) It's mostly open gaming, but you can schedule specific events if you email him the details by August 3.
***IMPORTANT: If you want to show up, contact him through GMail (jeff.vagabond) to get on his mailing list. He'll give you full details like parking, and the scheduled event list.
Below is his full invitation email:
What is Homecon?
This is an invitation for HomeCon, an attempt at convention life for those of us who miss GenCon, Origins, etc. but can't afford the energy, money, and/or time a real convention takes. Instead HomeCon will be a small event held in Cleveland. It will be combination of planned events and available tables for people to setup whatever games they want to play. Events can include all sorts of things - miniatures, RPGs, board games, movie marathons, etc. We are limited on space compared to a real convention, so things like LARPs are probably out of the question. But Werewolf, for example, should be fine. Feel free to forward this on to others you think will be interested.
If this e-mail was forwarded to you, and you would like to continue receiving information about HomeCon, please contact me through GMail (jeff.vagabond) so I can add you to the distribution list.
Location: 3294 Lee Road, Shaker Heights (my residence)
Date: September 15-16
Time: Saturday 9 AM - 11:45 PM; Sunday 9 AM - 4 PM
Parking: Parking lot open from 6 AM - midnight, 1 minute walk
Food and Drink: People will be responsible for their own meals. A grill will be available, weather permitting.
Cost: Bring a couple 12-packs of soda, a few 2-liters, some chips and dip, or whatever. Folks will be providing their own meals, but some mid-game snacks sound handy.
Anyone can submit an event. Events will be scheduled items, but they will not be the only gaming occurring. There will be available tables to play games as the spirit moves you. However, scheduled items allow additional options:
1) You can make certain a game occurs. Ever come to a game night jonesing for some Scrabble, but it never gets played? Sign up to organize Scrabble yourself.
2) We can have games that require some level of pre-planning: tournaments, RPGs, etc.
If you submit an event, you are responsible for making certain the materials needed for the game will be there. For board games that would be the board game. For a role-playing game, you would be the GM and I would recommend bringing pre-gen characters if char gen takes very long. For miniatures, terrain would be needed. Some things you can usually depend on the players to bring - role-players usually have dice, war gamers usually have appropriate miniatures, etc. None of these need to be yours, you're just responsible making certain they're in the right place at the right time.
Submission are due by August 3rd. After that I will take a couple weeks to organize events, and send them out to everyone so we can sign up. I don't have any nifty online registry since we're working on a $0 budget here, so I'll be handling registration by hand.

Note - if you give an approximate time I will do my best to arrange as few conflicts as possible with other events. If you give no specific time I'll do the same, but be warned it might end up on the wrong day if you have a preference.
