Since I am the most interested in my Grandfather's old pictures I have appointed myself with the task of scanning, and storing his slides and negatives. My question is what would you suggest as a cost effective media storage (i.e. : web based, hard drive, or discs)? I would like to make them readily available the rest of my family, but money is certainly a concern.

Hi there,
I use smugmug.com as my storage media. You can upload all photos to galleries you create so they are available to anyone wordwide (with internet access of course). It is spam free and you don't have to worry about ads appearing on "YOUR" pages. It costs $39.95 a year for the basic package. You can check out all the details as www.smugmug.com. You can try them free for 14 days. You can also use this code xesS1wRaF7ASs to get $5 off your first year. You can also check out my homepage at www.goldenstarphoto.com to see the things you can do with a smugmug account. (I have the pro level though with is $149 a year, but I generate a lot of sales) |

Forgot to mention.....since your doing all the work of scanning the photos, have your family chip in the money for the account to be able to see them.
![]() Should you ever decide to leave smugmug you would also have the option of buying an archive cd (or cd's) of all photos on your account. |
