Objective: the Squamish weather forecast for this week is unusually warm and dry so let's plan for a day of rock climbing in the Bluffs then dinner in Squamish.
Schedule: meet at the St. David's Church parking lot (Taylor Way and Hwy #1) at 9:00am and leave for Squamish by 9:15am. Those in Squamish can meet us at the Bluffs parking lot at 10:00am. We'll climb until about 3:30pm then pack up, hike down and go for dinner.
Climbing Area: visit the Funarama Wall where there are 40+ routes. Most are rated 5.8-ish but there are several 5.10 routes and even a few 5.11's. FYI, Justin went last weekend and said the climbing was excellent, i.e. no fingerless gloves required. Do bring a warm jacket to wear while belaying.
Gear List: each climber is expected to have their own personal climbing gear... including a helmet. Those with a good climbing rope that are willing to share, please begin it plus anchoring material. The VRCG does not usually provide group gear for regular trips.
Registering: To take part in this trip you must be a full VRCG Member (no guests) and have good belay skills. FYI, the membership fee is $30 annually and allows you to join both indoor & outdoor trips for a year. To learn more, click here: VRCG membership and waiver forms.
Event Fee: none!
Instruction: this is *not* an instructional climbing course but a group trip for VRCG members seeking to gain more experience... with experienced climbers.
Afterward: Joe and I plan go for a relaxed dinner in Squamish after climbing and everyone is invited. If you can't make it then please arrange to carpool with a group that is driving back early.
Cancellation: This event will proceed if the weather forecast, on the morning of the trip, is less than 30% chance of rain. Also there must be at least 3 RSVPs listed two hours before the trip meetup date-time. If there are only 2 RSVPs, the event will be cancelled automatically for safety reasons.
