What's this?

This is our super popular annual event organized by all volunteers out of good will with the goal to increase awesomeness in this world, one of the steps in our world domination plan. Our goal is to help indoor climbers (with limited outdoor climbing experience and gear) to enjoy a full day of outdoor top-roping so they can leap the abyss from indoor to outdoor climbing. We will provide the group climbing gear (e.g. ropes, carabiners, cams, etc.) and set up the top ropes. Participants will bring their own personal gear (e.g. harness, helmet, shoes, etc) and climb all day. Leader - New climbers ratio 2:4

Participation is voluntary. Climbing can be dangerous. You might die, get killed or kill others and the world might end. If you want professional climbing instructions, hire an ACMG climbing guide (www.acmg.ca)

Expect a full day of climbing and some hiking and coming back to Vancouver late e.g. 9pm. Pace of outdoor climbing generally is slower than indoor climbing. Questions: call Joe[masked]

Why are we doing this?

Because the rock is there and we need to climb it.

Who's this for?

An awesome individual who:

- has climbed indoor at least 10 times

- knows how to TOP ROPE BELAY

- has climbed with VRCG at least once and know at least one of the event organizers so he/she can vouch that you will benefit greatly from this session!

- has NOT climbed outdoor before OR v. limited outdoor climbing experience

- doesn't have any psychological issues such as last min. bailing, double-booking, freeloading, anger from childhood, etc.

Exception to these criteria CAN exist. Please freely ASK before RSVP!

Cost?

$10 per person for club gear.

How to register?

If you fit the participant criteria, RSVP at MEETUP here.

If you DON'T, Please contact us first.

People who DON'T READ, DON'T ASK AND SIGN UP... PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!

What to bring?

- harness, belay device, shoes, chalk bag, rope (if you have one), MUST HAVE HELMET (if you don't have a climbing helmet, bring a cycling helmet or other equivalents, or rent at mec.ca), gloves for belaying (e.g. cycling gloves or equivalents with good friction) If you don't have these gear, call Joe 7789997104.

- food (lunch and snacks), warm clothing (it can be cold and windy even in the summer) and LOTS of water

- bugspray

- sunscreen, sunglasses, hat

- happiness and awesomeness

Hi Joe, thanks for letting us come! To the group: Does anyone have space for 2 people in their car? Leaving from the Vancouver downtown or Mount Pleasant area? The carpool spreadsheet only has people leaving from the Burnaby/Coquitlam area so just wanted to see if there was anyone closer or we might look into renting a car instead.

    Thanks!

Hi Brenda, Laura and Marcus. Thanks so much for responding to my post and offering rides. Actually we just found out that we can borrow a car for tomorrow so we will be able to drive to Squamish to meet the group.

Laura, we'd love to give you a ride but unfortunately the car that we borrowed is a 2 seater so we don't have an extra spot but it sounds like Marcus has spots near East Van

Hey Andrea and Laura, I will be driving from W Broadway/Granville area and have room for 3 more people but I am staying overnight is Squamish. I am happy to drive you up to Squamish but you'd have to find your own way back. Not sure if that is at all helpful!
