So the venerable Jay Fry had a great idea to get folks who will be in town for VMworld together for drinks before the INXS concert.

This one is going to be Jay's rodeo, because, frankly, I couldn't have slacked more lately in organizing get togethers. Location is TBD--but somebodies company is going to be convinced that buying all of us drinks has a positive ROI I hope!

Why: 'cloud' really moved from a forming front, to a now somewhat fragmented business adventure for us all. Oren is off in PaaS land kicking ass with 65k apps, Jay went off and bought like 80 companies to build out CA's cloud story, I've been humming away in getting our vCloud product and services to market (watch for lots at VMworld), Randy bias single handedly has become the architect of Korea Telecoms' new offerings and built a Cloudscaling into a great company in less than a year, Chris Hoff, well..ok, I mean everyone else did a lot right? :)

(Just kidding Chris has taken Cloud Audit from blog to code and real group)

These are just just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the massive technology and business accomplishments of this group over the last year. There are so many more stories I could tell about the people in this circle. Every-time I even scan the people in this loosely coupled social circle I shake my head at the embarrassment of riches--but the projects are each in their own way separate and distinct from each other and I didn't want to force the buzzword into the discussion forever.

If we are going to keep hanging out--and I hope to occasionally--it oughta be more out of fun and nostalgia and networking, than claiming to decipher how this new thing will change our lives, because that question is now out of date--it HAS changed our lives.

Speech over--lets drink--I think all of that was a poorly worded excuse for my lack of events, but its the best one I could think of.

See you all at VMworld!!

James

I'm taking suggestions for which bar we will grace with our august group's presence. Post suggestions here, or ping me via e-mail jay.fry@ca.com, or on Twitter @jayfry3. I might even warn the proprietors beforehand. :)
