Take EC2 Security to the Next Level

During this session you will learn the key elements needed to secure Amazon EC2 and AWS to their fullest, with a detailed discussion on best practices for cloud security management of the Amazon cloud, and a layered-defense approach starting with the facilities security, network defenses, VPNs, virtual private clouds. The session will also cover one of the hottest topics in the cloud today – the role of purpose built cloud-native identity and access management (like Amazon IAM) to secure and integrate public and private clouds. Come listen to Jason Merrick from Symplified talk about taking your infrastructure security one step further. Merrick brings more than 15 years of enterprise identity management and security experience to Symplified, and has played a pivotal role with several successful start-up security technology vendors including Securant Technologies (now RSA Security), Teros (now Citrix) and Air Tight Networks. Merrick is responsible for building and managing vendor partnerships for Symplified’s SinglePoint Network – the industry’s first open identity and security ecosystem that connects Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, cloud computing systems and enterprise networks.

The talk was not useful at all. It was more like problem description but no useful solution or discussion at all. Sounded like you could pay them to get some secret. Time wasted.

Little bit too much of a commercial for Symplified.

Very nice to hear and learn about the security approaches for cloud computing. Rest assured that there is no one shot immunization to make your datacenter or cloud secure magically. It is a wholesome matter from application to database, to access, ... It was encouraging to hear the PCI compliance work from Verizon. I encourage our colleagues to check with Verizon PCI compliance reports. It is scary!!!

Talk lacked case studies of real scenarios with examples of issues and problems and how they were overcome. I think most people understand the basic should and should-nots of security, but they're lacking actual implementation know-hows. This talk was supposed to focus on EC2, but I saw almost no specific reference or demo on the platform. We want to learn by seeing how it's done, especially by a company that is supposed to be expert in the domain, but all I saw was high level summaries and no hard substance.

The presentation was not useful, informative, or thought provoking. The topic of EC2 security was a marketing gimmick. However, networking was awesome.

Excellent format. Gave an opportunity for the users to learn and ask questions.
One area of improvement is that the agenda could be communicated to registered users beforehand, which will give them an opportunity to come prepared with questions
