Our first event is here!
Thanks to all who attended our Christmas social and gave us lots of ideas and suggestions for how the meetups should run.
For the first event we've got Markham Nolan from Storyful (http://storyful.com/) coming to share some thoughts with us about community management in the year to come. Markham is a social media newsgatherer, sourcing and verifying news via social media using old journalism techniques alongside new tools. A core part of this is sizing up and building relationships with online sources and crowdsourced factchecking.
We'll then have a couple of pitch sessions à la Hacks/Hackers London and some space for anyone to share a story from their community and questions/debate. If you want to take part in any of these slots please email communityLDN@gmail.com.
The very lovely people at Crayon have very kindly offered up their cool space in the heart of Oxford Circus for us to meet up in so we're looking forward to trying out this new space with this new group. Please do say hello to @nathanmiller and the @crayonlondon team to thank them for the room and the Ribena! There are more details on how to get to Crayon and a map here: http://www.crayonlondon.com/contact/
Thanks also to Brett from CommunityManager.com for pointing out that Monday 23 January is #CMAD (community manager appreciation day). We hope the first cmLDN meetup of 2012 will be a great way to celebrate all work going on in London as a chance for those who work in the field to meet, share ideas and be inspired. But we won't actually be hosting an event on this day.
***UPDATE*** Crayon are not only letting us host the event in their space but will be providing pizza and fizzy pop for attendees. Yes it's free, just like the event. So please say a massive thanks to Nathan and the team when you come along.

Talk about this Meetup
Thanks to all at crayon for being such gracious hosts, Hannah and Laura for conjuring up the idea, @currybet for the writeup, and to all of you for your questions and warm welcome. Delighted to be part of it, and if anyone wants to get in touch, drop me a line at [masked].
Posted by Markham Nolan January 26 at 1:46 PMThanks to everyone who came last night. We'll post details of the next event on meetup in the next couple of weeks - hoping to run this monthly so watch this space. Martin's done a great write up of Markham's talk if you missed it: http://www.currybet.net/cbe...

Posted by Hannah Waldram January 26 at 10:06 AMThanks all for the inspiration last night! It's great to read your recap Martin and I've been having fun already thinking about creating a picture of community manager Georgia. I remembered this visualisation of inside the mind of a community manager http://blog.getsatisfaction...
and also this US research into the demographics of community managers http://socialfresh.com/comm...
Do we need a Ms Community Manager picture instead of Mr?
Posted by Tess Raine January 26 at 10:48 AMTess thanks so much for these links, really interesting. If anyone else has any input into the makeup of a community manager please get in touch @Georgeous1 or [masked] I will be exploring a mr and mrs version or a hybrid of the two :-)
Posted by Georgie January 26 at 1:42 PMThanks for arranging last night, and thanks to the folks at Crayon for hosting. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and look forward to the next one.

Posted by Sarah Bee January 25 at 5:56 PMWhat's the address for this? the map link doesn't seem to work.
Posted by Richard Millington January 25 at 4:34 PMI'm not sure you being the pub next door would be very useful if I'm lost :-)
I'll try to come by a little early so we can grab a beer first. Just need to get something big done at the moment.
Posted by Richard Millington January 25 at 5:22 PMWhat's the name of the pub by the way?
Posted by Richard Millington January 25 at 5:22 PMWe have some supadoopa news. The guys at Crayon will very very kindly be providing pizza and fizzy pop to all cmLDN attendees at our first event.
We're ever so excited and glad we'll be suitably fed and watered while chatting about community goodness.
Please say a big thanks to the Crayon team on arrival. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Posted by Hannah Waldram January 12 at 5:35 PMAwesome!
Posted by Charlie Duff January 23 at 2:54 PMLooking forward to this immensely, folks. And as it's the first community managers meetup - I'd like to know what this particular community wants to hear about. What do you REALLY want to know about Storyful, and my role within it? Questions on a tweet to @storyfulmarkham, answers on the night....
Posted by Markham Nolan January 23 at 2:37 PMLooking forward to this. Thanks for organising it.
